I waited till it was dark and could see the screen, Settings and then adjusted the brightness and all is well. Having the back stuck to the mount doesn't help with cooling I am sure. Ali's had a power connection issue with the dashcam and git no footage of the afternoon session!

Club exclusive session from my car. Clive and Jon (boosted) disappear into the distance and I'm on my own for quite a while before catching up with back markers, then the dreaded Red Flag (but we only lost a minute or two )
Missed the Red Flag at Quarry, spotted the next one after the chicane....

I forgot about my iPhone - left in the console tunnel... Was almost too hot to handle and took a while before It would allow me to turn it on.
Harry's manual does say to try to direct some airflow over the iPhones when being used to record video... (I used my Android, and recorded video separately - which is then overlayed).
See now - the first outcome of this process - Session 1 10:15 with Overlays:

Re: JDM Castle Combe Sat 2nd June 2018
Thanks for organising to everyone involved, we had a fantastic day. It was a warm one wasn’t it!
I have to make a formal apology and a rather embarrassing admission.
I apologise to those I held up slightly in the first track session. I was moving off the line as much as possible but I’m aware I held Clive and a couple of others up once or twice. I feel you’re owed an explanation
Basically, this was largely down to my being a moron and managing to suck around 30hp from the car... The evening before Combe I was farting about with the timing on the 5. Common mod in the mx-5 world is to advance timing 4 degrees as the stock tune is very conservative. In my rush to get everything done ready, I actually managed to retard timing instead of advance it, which meant that the car ran like utter crap below about 4K rpm, and consequently I had absolutely no acceleration out of some of the corners. Having now realised what I did and corrected it (all the while cursing my own stupidity) the car is now running beautifully again. So, I apologise to anyone who got stuck behind me. If it’s any consolation I spent most of the session screaming at the car inside my helmet wondering why it just wouldn’t go.
On the plus side, once I managed to get it back above 4K it was great fun and hopefully I didn’t hold anyone up too badly. I had a few hairy moments discovering the limits of my new road tyres, but had a great time. See you all soon!

Did you use a timing gun on the 14 deg mod? Ive done the mod a few times and moving the cas a tiny amount can effect the timing..its defo worth checking in a week or 2..and marking the timing mark makes it so much easier.

I did yes, what I actually managed to do was forget which way round the TDC and 10deg marks are and turn the CAS the wrong way... you can see why I feel so dumb

Re: JDM Castle Combe Sat 2nd June 2018
Woudnt worry, depends which guide you read, so just checking standing at front of engine..turn cas Anti clockwise advance from big 10deg mark 2 notices to left on cam belt plastic cover? So 14deg of advance..thats the way i do it but i set to 12deg..some go to 18...with superunleaded.

Re: JDM Castle Combe Sat 2nd June 2018
Yes, that’s exactly it, and what I should have done. I brain-failed and for some reason thought advance was clockwise so ended up at 6deg BTDC, hence the garbage performance. This is despite having successfully done this mod before now. What a pillock.

Re: JDM Castle Combe Sat 2nd June 2018
No problem Dan, glad you got it sorted, and comforting to know we all make mistakes from time to time
My second session, 14.15. According to RaceChrono, there's a 1m25.70 on lap 6, with loads of 1m26.XX's, so at least consistent. Must take more brave pills for Camp Corner, as I brake far too much for that bend, which compromises the flat out run all the way up to Avon Rise. Trouble is, I've seen too many videos of cars smashing into the wall out of that corner (and two "live" crashes as well)!!

NO you leave those brave pills alone, I like your bonnet the way it is
Seems like you can do about 75mph through Camp judging from other people's footage.
On the subject of braking for corners, I noticed myself in your other video taking perhaps an unusual approach to Avon Rise... which may have something to do with the rear axle divergence I experienced earlier on in that session:
Incidentally, during the briefing when they mentioned strictly no drifting, I did grin and look over at Dan. First time I'd had a bit of a moment on Quarry, hopefully the last as well. I hope it found its way onto a 'Castle Combe Quarry Fail' video on Youtube.

Re: JDM Castle Combe Sat 2nd June 2018
Fortunately Nick had plenty of tarmac to play with, and was pretty much back in control by the time we had drifted (in every sense of the word! ) from the optimal line to the centre of the track. The only skidmarks were on the track and it remained calm-ish in the car.

Re: JDM Castle Combe Sat 2nd June 2018
No tyre squealing there from me Jon!
I had Chris behind me through Bobbies and saw Clive dive up the inside of him for Camp. I know there's no point giving a REW a run for its money so I backed right off but for some reason he just stuck behind me like a lemon, and Chris came by the both of us. :/
Got bored and put my foot down again for the straight then he comes past me just before Avon Rise. :/ really not sure what was happening there.
Saw you in the mirror and again moved right out of the way.
Speaking of which, it was good fun having a play with you Chris engine seems to be doing well and a few flames.
Kiwigaz also, car seems to be performing very well.

Re: JDM Castle Combe Sat 2nd June 2018
I clarify abit ..my drifty moment at 3.13...tyres squealing
I can prob speak for Clive as to what he was doing and just making sure he was seen rather blast past and somebody go for an overtake themselves...i was tad naughty and overtook an 8 overtaking another 8...but thought that was the safest thing todo in nanonsecond of brain reasoning..so aplogise to whoever i did it too...

let the court records show that i was not involved with any lemon based actions (that were not my own)13Black wrote: ↑Tue Jun 05, 2018 3:18 pmNo tyre squealing there from me Jon!
Thanks, Stu

Your stand looked impressive at Coombe with nice selection of standard and modified cars. I had a look around. I was just up on the 350zuk stand

Re: JDM Castle Combe Sat 2nd June 2018
Maybe Steve (nightfire10) didn't want to make a song and dance about it but he deserves a big public thank you for sorting me out with a CC fitted steering wheel.
I've been on the lookout for one because I've been meaning to get Cruise up and running on mine before getting a customer in to finish his off.
After I missed out on one from a FB group, he managed to pick one up and insisted I have it for free - wouldn't tell me how much he paid for it or accept any money for it. Something about seeing me help people on the forum and wanting to square me up for it. Total nonsense of course but didn't want to argue
SeeJay agreed to pick it up at Combe and drop it off at my place too but in the end that wasn't necessary, but appreciated all the same
Great folks on here true diamonds. Thank you thank you thank you.

Ah but did you try the cake?
Let's see your 350Z then, I'm sure a lot of us have considered them before settling on an 8.

Re: JDM Castle Combe Sat 2nd June 2018
I left a couple of almost new chairs in the gazebo at Combe, one very green and the other not so green.
I was one of the last to leave but must of had a bit too much sun it was hot. Could someone drop them down to the next Cotswold meet for me please.
I had a very pleasant day there, catching up with some people and meeting some new faces as well
It was nice to turn up late and have nothing to do but relax and get chauford around the circuit a couple of times, thanks guys
The driving standards in the mixed sessions seemed very good compared to last year when there were a lot of problems, looks like there has been some tightnening up of the rules.
There is some very good videos of the day that i enjoyed watching and some nice driving from everyone
I am going to have to start doing some things to my car if you guys keep getting faster
Well done everyone
Regards
Pete
