Had fish & chips @ The Bridport Arms (West Bay) last night :thumleft:

Coffee was ok...got it from the furthest kiosk away...big queue gave away the popularity :thumright:

Robert's bacon roll was 6 feckin' quid

My 44 MPG average on the way home helped me forget about the rain :p

I must say I was equally disappointed with how the club was handled today, it was my first event with the club and I do hope the other (more expensive) events are organised a little better.

We wondered off for a bacon roll and a quick cuppa - came back and nobody knew where anyone had gone!

Me and several other first timers were left a bit stumped as not knowing who anyone is in that situation isn't the best....

I had been round all the cars with a driver sitting in them and advised that rather than stay out in the open where we were those that wished to could follow Nigel and others off site to somewhere where we could pitch the gazebo and do some cooking. Unfortunately there were no "pass outs" so once out it would be necessary to purchase another ticket to gain re-entry.
The alternative being to stay and tough it out hoping the rain lifted which we had been advised was unlikely.
Clearly your first "taste" of a club event left a lot to be desired but please be assured this was a real exception events generally run very well, even the Snetterton track day in similar rainy conditions earlier this year.
Hopefully we will see you at the Forge Action Day at Castle Combe in September.

I have to agree.... under normal circumstances the events team are 2nd to none and Nigel and the others usually run a well oiled operation with almost Swiss watch precision. That's why they received the best club stand at a recent event.
This was our 4th annual pilgrimage to Simply Japanese and this was first time I have ever had reason to question the team.

May I suggest that should something like this happen again (and I hope it doesn't) that someone from the events team (or another club member for that matter) be tasked with updating the various sites to keep the stragglers/latecomers informed.

It took me about 2 hours to get there - it took nearly 4 to get home (possibly my own fault as I programmed the satnav for home 'avoiding motorway' and it decided what I really wanted was a complete tour of all the wettest roads in southern England never being any closer to home at any point  until I finally worked out where I was and ignored what it was telling me to do). I'm sure I was in or near Horsham at one point (that has never been on my way home from anywhere) - and when the satnav did try to send me the right way the roads were closed for some 'big cycling event' - maybe I was in France somehow. :?

I decided to stay on in the rain when those who wanted to find somewhere to put the gazebo up left. Got myself a burger for breakfast then had a wander round the museum, the mansion and the monastery with the nice lady with the lovely RX-7 FD - she'd come all the way from Wales and wanted to see as much as she could so it would have been rude to leave her to do that without some company (even if it was only mine  ).

Sorry I didn't make myself known either. I will say Chris did all he could to let as many people as he could find know what was happening with the group who were leaving, but this really was the exception when it comes to the club stand at events and I hope it hasn't put you off - at other events in the past where it has rained we have been able/allowed to put a gazebo up and the day has always gone well despite the weather. This time it really was working against us and any attempts at socialising.

Nigel - you could have left us a few tins of Coke [-X and I'm upset at missing out on the cup cakes. :(

From reading the posts I think, had I gone, I'd have been a bit irked as well...

I appreciate that the weather wasn't great, but to just naff off with no notice and taking all the bits and pieces paid for by the club seems a bit off. OK, mobile signal isn't great at Beaulieu (Read non-existant) but IMO the events team should never leave people behind like that without notification of some sort.

Easier said than done, I'm sure, but I reckon something could have been done. I know I'd have been miffed if I'd been one of the lonely stragglers.

Just my 2 cents, sounds like those that braved it had an OK day in the end all told.

i too was in the same boat Hardale, not knowing anyone and people forming there own little groups wasnt ideal, especially as i suffer from anxiety, hence why i walked off on my own to explore the ground on my own. also as soon as we turned up at the event the events team and there own little meeting going on with everyone out of there cars getting wet for 45 mins (which is when i got fed up and left the group). i also turned up with no money as events team said food will be brought down which was stupid of me as i have type 1 diabetes and the lack of food and drink didnt help. i felt excluded and disappointed with the whole day.

This was my first event and was looking forward to it, I know we can't control the weather. I went and got a coffee for my girlfriend and myself to find when I got back that members had gone off site somewhere to have coffee and bacon rolls, where I had no idea so was unable to go if we wanted to. We lasted until 12:30pm and by then half of the RX8OC had gone too, going forward I will be having second thoughts whether to book future events, was so disappointed with the organisational side of things.

At these events the Gazebo is the meeting point and hub of the club, without being allowed to erect it then all point of contact is lost, i expect other clubs had very similiar issues and as ive attended several RX8OC events that have been brilliant this is just a blip and unfortunate due to the unforseen weather and silly H&S rules...plenty of cars to secure a Gazebo too!.

Rightly or wrongly the events team did what they thought was best, they tried to inform as many people as they could. If everyone had stayed there still wouldn't have been any food or drink as you can't have an outdoor buffet in the pouring rain. An outdoor show in that kind of .weather is never going to be much fun

Beaulieu 2018 Simply Japanese - Sun 29th July - **CLUB STAND CLOSED**

Post by GreySilver Beast » Mon Jul 30, 2018 2:43 pm

------Attention------

On behalf of the Events Team who left the Show we apologise for the actions that were taken as some of us elected to leave the Show due to the weather that wasn't going to lift and the attitude of the Beaulieu Organisers :!:

If we had stayed you still wouldn't have got any of the Food or Hot Drinks as we had no cover anywhere to set it all up :(

The Club had verbal permission by the Beaulieu Events Team when we ordered the Tickets to be able to put up two Gazebos and Club Flags of which were fully indemnity Insured :thumleft:

We were told upon arrival that no one can put Gazebos or Flags up today due to the weather and when we said " so you want us to stand in the rain " Beaulieu Events Organiser said " Yes " :!: We did everything in our power to get them to change their mind, but they just wouldn't budge :!: :!:

Due to the attitude of Beaulieu Events Organisers that we spoke to on Sunday Morning, the Club may not return back to Simply Japanese Show next year :!: :!:

These are exceptional circumstances and aren't normally the norm for our Events that we attend throughout the year so do hope this hasn't put some of our New Members off from attending future Events :(

Many thanks for your support of the RX-8OC :thumleft: and once again we apologise :(

Re: Beaulieu 2018 Simply Japanese - Sun 29th July - **CLUB STAND CLOSED**

Without being allowed to put a gazebo up to provide shelter and a focal point where everybody could gather I think it was virtually impossible to organise anything that could be inclusive of everybody. The events team decided the best option was to go and find somewhere where they could put up the gazebo, cook the bacon and so on but that did mean leaving Beaulieu and understandably a fair number were there primarily for the museum etc. They communicated what they were doing as best they could in the circumstances - but by the time they had decided on that course of action most people had of course either taken shelter in their cars (Chris did go to every car and every person he could find to explain what was happening so they could decide whether to follow the food or stay for the museum) or gone to get a coffee and to find somewhere else to take shelter from the rain.

I don't recall facing such bad conditions at an event in the past (we've had rain and wind and so on, but we either had a gazebo up or somewhere sheltered where we could all gather to discuss what to do) and I'm sure lessons have been learned so a contingency plan can be put in place for anything similar happening in the future which will leave nobody feeling excluded (or without food or the means to get food if that has been promised).
