BIG SCOTTISH ROAD TRIP 2017 in September

Post by minisaki » Wed Jan 11, 2017 6:19 pm

IMPORTANT!!!

I WON'T NOW BE RUNNING THE BBQ OR THE SCOTTISH ROAD TRIP THIS YEAR!!!!
I'm sure many of you know but for those who don't mine and Hannah's baby Iris was born 08/08/17 (8 day :thumleft: )
She's in a special baby unit as she's nearly 2 months early so obviously Iris and Hannah take priority.

If you used booking.com then you'll be able to cancel for free usually for the rooms as I have done. Also feel free to still do it I just won't be there. I'll be doing the road trip again next year so you're welcome to do it then.

8th/9th/10th of September

The notorious RX8OC Big Scottish Road Trip for 2017.
As always the second weekend of September. :thumleft:
This is by far one of the best things you can do in your car it's epic!!
3 days of excellent driving roads in a convoy of screaming rotors,  with great people eating great food! :thumleft:
Have a look at the photos or ask anyone who's been on this trip before you'll love it. :D
It's simple for you too:
Friday we all meet up in Inverness, have a bacon roll and a brew, fuel up then you simply follow me. Finishing up in Ullapool. :thumleft:
Saturday breakfast and a chat then another day of epic roads and scenery and food finishing up at Wick. :thumleft:
Sunday breakfast then yet another day of epic roads before it's all done again. :thumleft:
Some serious things now!
Book your hotels now don't put it off as it's a busy route now and if you snooze you loose. [-X
Get a Jerry can there's a decent chance you'll need it. Image
Make sure your car is running well and in good order it's a very intense weekend good tyres and brakes are a must. :-k
Start putting a few quid aside it's not that expensive of a weekend but you'll be eating out and fueling a few times before including getting to the start point.
If you have any questions don't wait to ask and I'll try to get back to you ASAP.

Going:
  1. Bubbles Haze (Stuart)
  2. DOD1695 (George)
  3. Aaron Strong
  4. XPT (Kerr)
  5. Adrian Heffernan
  6. Rob Johnston

I have just booked hotels and would strongly advise anyone who's planning on coming to do the same as some places are already sold out. If you use booking.com you can cancel for free right up till September .

Well done Ben =D> and anybody hesitating or dithering for any reason whatsoever ... stop dithering, sign up and book your hotels. This is the best thing I've done and the most fun I've had in the RX-8 in the 10 years I've had mine.

I am very sorry to say I will not be there this year :crybaby: - I would definitely be doing it for the third year running if I wasn't already booked for a 3-4 week road trip round Arizona and New Mexico at the same time this year. #-o

High praise for the event from Brian quite a statement but fully believe it's true.

It's a shame you won't be there this year Brian and Chris but sure I'll catch up with you both at some point. Hopefully I'll see you there Andy :thumleft: :thumleft: :thumleft:

Excellent Steve I'll add you to the list. There's something on every month I organize in Scotland it would be great to meet you before the trip. Also if you're not already on it I have a Facebook group just search Scottish RX8 owners and you'll find it. I tend to keep that more up to date.

BIG SCOTTISH ROAD TRIP 2017

Post by Metelyk » Sun Jan 15, 2017 8:08 am

I've booked hotels. Not many options in either Ullapool (Friday) or Wick (Sat) so looks like it could be a busy run!!
Friday - Ferry Boat Inn Ullapool
Saturday - Harbour House B&B Wick

The hotel situation is the same every year :( the first year I was just going to find accommodation when we turned up expecting off season to be quiet however Chris Holmes suggested otherwise and it was a good job. This is why I always try and stress the point about booking ASAP. Although the hotels are busy don't worry you'll be pleasantly surprised how quiet the roads are :thumleft:

Thanks to Shagrington for bringing this tour to our attention tonight at the excellent Surrey meet.

Hotels booked for me and the missus, so expect a loud, whisky guzzling, cigar smoking Brazilian to tag along.
To do's*:

1. LED interior lights
2. Tint windows
3. Parrot hands free/MP3 streaming
4. Some sort of grunty exhaust
5. Hoop spoiler
6. Black wheels

*All items subject to change on a whim

Hey guys,

I live half an hour outside Inverness, was just wondering if other Jap cars can tag along. Couple of mates might be interested as well (S2000 & S14a.. Possibly a Starion too). Will be deciding if going by the weekend and will let you know.

Cheers
