Re: Le Mans 24 Hour 2013
Are we planning a club pitch in the speedchills area again? I'm up for that....
....but I won't be coming in the RX8. Some of you may remember that I've come with my mate Peds the last few times - well it's his turn to provide the wheels. As a Ford Focus has been deemed to be suitable wheels for the trip in the past, the DB9 we're coming in should past muster!

There once was a man from Essex,
Who was potty over Mazda RXs.
He ordered an 8,
and had to wait,
But when it arrived, said "tis better than sex is".

Re: Le Mans 24 Hour 2013
Right, we're booked
Speedchills Beausejours, with grandstand seats in T19 Lagache.
Hull - Zeebrugge 18/06/2013
Zeebrugge - Hull 24/06/2013
Sue (aka Capn Pugwash) is already dosing up on Kwells, brandy and ginger.
As usual, anyone and everyone is welcome around the beer cooler paddling pool.
Ploz - it's basically another Ford so I guess it'll do. How many crates of champers are you aiming for this time?

Re: Le Mans 24 Hour 2013
You would be very welcome Buster
Travel arrangements are whatever you like - this isn't an official club-organised trip, just a way for people who are going to get grouped together at the campsite and make sharing cookers etc a bit easier.
We're going Hull-Zeebrugge. In the past we've gone Dover-Boulougne and Channel Tunnel. We'll be passing Calais on the way so if anyone wants to join a convoy there we can sort out a meet point.
Also, we get to Le Mans soon after the campsite opens, so we can usually get a good pitch and people coming down the following day can join on, rather than getting stuck next to the toilet block.
Once there it's up to you - do your own thing, or stick with the group, or a mixture of the two. It's all very casual
The whole thing can be booked through [urlw]http://www.speedchills.com/le-mans-24-h ... te-camping[/urlw] - just let them know you're with the RX8OC. (NB there's plenty of other tour companies out there - we've stuck with Speedchills for the last 5 years as they're well organised and not too expensive)

Re: Le Mans 24 Hour 2013
Due to potential job changes, Peds and I cannot commit until around Xmas (but the prospects look good).
Bill - yes we plan to make the diversion for champagne and see how much we can get in the Aston. In fact, we ought to take some orders if anyone is interested, bearing in mind it's not cheaper than UK - we just hunt out stuff from independent growers and makers that you cannot find in the shops. One of the makers we buy from has been described as the best yet to be discovered in the UK.
If we can do the trip, a sneakily reserved tent space would, as ever, be appreciated, allowing for the smash and grab on champagne.

Re: Le Mans 24 Hour 2013
I know I'm very premature but Sooz and I want to go in 2014, to celebrate her BIG birthday.
As the last time we went was with the club to Speedchills Beausejour in 2008, we've heard there's been some big changes to Beausejour so we aren't sure where's best to camp. We defo don't want the rowdy camp-sites and if we go off circuit, how difficult is it to get to the circuit as the traffic is murder?
Should we go on circuit with Speedchills again if there are a few of us, can we make a "central gazebo social area" again or are they much more strict on the space?
Tony do you camp on or off circuit? I assume whichever it's very good as you've been back for 3 years.
Any info/help/suggestions will be great.
thanks guys
Ian
Ps What all this I hear about no bottles? Does this apply to Beausejour? Are we not allowed to build "beer bottle mountains" any more?

euro tunnel return booking at your time / one car / driver/ 1 passenger other passengers extra
or from selected ports on ferry
run by tony and his wife and helpers nice and make you very welcome
24 hour security walking around the camp although i never seen or heard of any trouble
the cost £875.00 its less per person if theres two or more they put on an extra premium if there is only one per tent

3/ tents have a good spacing between them and plenty of room for at least 3/4 cars
4/ transport to and from the circuit at designated times

dont try a block booking they don't want clubs and get a but twitchy if they get more than 5/6 cars of the same make as what they go for is the lemans fun but with a leisurely back drop from the circuit . but theres still a lot who get together for a few beers on the night so if your going to book then book individually
there where 5 8s there last time and tony who runs it owns one as well.
there are other cheeper packages for the same site i just like to pack a bag an go knowing when you get there all you have to do is unpack and not worry about putting up tents and sorting out food in bad weather i took a small stove for brews and my bacon rolls in the morning french don't do good tea
they also have a couple of fridges to put your milk or ice in theirs no more than 40/50 cars on site(last time i went there where 32 cars and five campers) its 3 times the size of speed chills
call heather on 0844 873 0203

Re: Le Mans 24 Hour 2013
Ian, would be great to see you and Sooz again - it's been a while
We've been with Speedchills every year since 2008, but we now alternate between the 24hr and the classic - 2014 will be a Classic year. (Usually held a month after the 24hr, when's the big day?)
Speedchills hasn't changed much from when you last came - food's better, showers/toilets about the same, and the band still only knows the same 3 songs.
They use Bleu Sud for the Classic rather than Beausejours - only 5 mins walk to the main entrance, not rowdy, and we weren't cramped last time even though there were only 4 of us (2 cars) on 2 standard pitches.
Not heard of any bottle restrictions; certainly never had a problem in the past. Possibly it applies to general camping rather than in the Speedchills compound?
Anyway, we'll be at BSJ for the 24hr this year so I can let you know if it's changed.

Looks like the requirement to carry a breathalyzer in France is being abandoned.

Re: Le Mans 24 Hour 2013
Hi Bill
thanks for the info, I'd really be grateful for your thoughts on this year.
Sooz birthday is in March so, it'll be a belated (or should I say additional) celebration.
It's a shame that we won't be able to get together whilst there. It'd be good to catch up. Sooz still reminisces of the cidre sampling sessions with Su

.
Fingers crossed, we'll have a small party of 10 or so including DirtyLeeds and Alison, I'm trying to persuade BigWithey to come along as well.
