quality is not fantastic but for the price and the amount of use it's going to get it was a bargain, you can take the cheek pads out as well

Do not buy unless you've tried it on

different makes size differently, I got a Small Shoei helmet, but a medium cheaper brand, you don't want to buy another one off the Net ,as it again might not fit

And you can't return crash helmets

Aldi/Lidl some times do cheap helmets, but remember its you head, isn't it worth protecting.

Also forget about the safety aspects for a while , as some people had said its only for track days, doesn't need to be that good, far point, but remember quality helmets are not only built for safety they are build for comfort, they are lighter have better ventilation.
On track days your going to be experiencing a lot of force on your neck, hard braking.cornering etc doing that lap after lap with a big heavy helmet isn't going to be that nice, also you get hot and sweaty and the inside of your crash helmet is going to be even hotter, so it will start to smell, better helmets have better material to help prevent this and also removable and washable interiors.

On the glasses front my Shoei ( alot of dearer helmets also have this feature )has grooves cut into to lining so you can put glasses on easily

I know a lot of people prefer open face for track-days

but this is good buy with £50 off, they also do quite a range of helmets some cheap, some state of the art(with a state of the art price though  )

Re: Trackday Helmet

Post by RX8Head » Mon Jan 16, 2012 8:34 pm

Ok guys and girls seeing as I'm going to be taking the Stealth Fighter out on track at least a couple of times this year I'm in need of a helmet. Due to wearing glasses and having done a couple of go kart things and using there helmets which are full face ones I've had issues with them causing my glasses to mist up which it's to bad on a go kart track but might be a bit more of an issue on the real thing.
So I'm looking at getting an open face one and have found this [urlw=http://www.demon-tweeks.co.uk/motorspor ... tar-helmet]one[/urlw] and this [urlw=http://www.demon-tweeks.co.uk/motorspor ... -j1-helmet]one[/urlw] they both look as if they'll do the job just wondering if anyone has either of these or any other ideas.
Cheers :D .

They both look good. I have the same issue with wearing glasses.

Not trying to change your mind , but regarding full face, in my cheap helmet my glasses steam up, when wearing my expensive Full face they don't also this one has channel's for the glasses to sit

I suppose its like everything you get what you pay for.

One thing is a must though you must try it on, Different manufacturers size differently My cheap helmet is a medium my expensive one is a small

Nigel had this problem brought one helmet without trying and after the first track-day it was to small and made his head hurt and he had to get another one

Also check the weight, your head does get thrown about quite a bit, the heavy the helmet the more force you create, Which could case neck/head ache

But good luck in choosing the right one

The other thing that might be a consideration, how long will it be before the heath and safety crew start to interfere with track-days and say you have to have a helmet of a certain of spec (you know it will happen).

One thing is certain once you start track-days you will be hooked

Just read this on one of the helmets your looking at

"The Star helmet has no approval for motorsport use but is ideal for trackdays* or other non MSA / FIA events.

* please check suitability with trackday organisers."

So even they are covering their arse's

Chris, either of those helmets will be fine, but you don't need to spend that much to get a helmet for trackday use. All the helmets on sale in the UK should meet the EU std so have a look at "Ghost Helmets" - I bought mine there for just over £30 delivered.

I actually tried the first one on which was Full Faced, but I worked out why I had a problem with it & that was because I had too much hair  ,as when my hair was short I could get the Full Faced Helmet on plus put my glasses on :!:

The Open Faced Helmet is more comfortable when you ware glasses though,as its easyer to put them on & you don't feel so enclosed either :D

Just so you know we can supply the full range of Sparco gear.

As mentioned above the club open face helmet is a good starter helmet, but not an MSA approved one if you wanted to try proper competition driving (EG Time attack or Track Day trophy etc).

I was actually trying them on the other day at the Autosport to see the difference, as I am getting an open face too, as I hate closed ones now! The club one is a smaller shell, (and obviously cheaper, at less than £100) the Sparco WTXj, entry level MSA approved Open face, is a bit bigger, a lot more padded and comfortable, but costs around £260 ish. If you care, it comes with HANS posts and intercom port!

First off thanks for all the advise I went for the Sparco Club J1 in the end from Demon Tweeks. Ordered it on Wednesday and it was waiting with one of my neighbours when i got home from work on Friday. I've tried it on and it's a nice fit and it also came with a free demon tweeks helmet bag(normally 22quid  ). Oh and found an online code which saved me 10% 8) , so all in to my door it came in at just over 70quid :D .
