that's at least three satisfied users of that helmet model. Great value at £129 IMHO.

£20 incredible bargain
Shame they only appear to have the "Small, 56cm" size in stock though.

Re: Trackday Helmet
Just bought a small one for Pauline. She doesn't drive on trackdays but still needs one as a passenger.
Even with £10 Fedex to NI, still a bargain.

Re: Trackday Helmet
I was getting a bit worried about this, having bought for the first time from this website and having had no response since the automatic order acknowledgement, 10 days ago.
I'd sent an email last week asking for the Fedex tracking number and hadn't heard back, which didn't bode well.
Anyway, the Fedex guy appeared this morning complete with helmet and I'm very pleased with it.
The quality is well up to standard and the enclosed leaflet shows the RRP @ £169, either way £20 + £10 delivery is well worth the money.
Pauline didn't know I'd ordered it and couldn't work out why I needed another helmet.
She was quite chuffed when I explained that it was for her and even more so when it proved to be a perfect fit.
Now she's nearly set for passenger rides at Kirkistown in July and Anglesey in August.
I just need to find a supplier for Joo Janta 200 Super-Chromatic Peril Sensitive Sunglasses

Re: Trackday Helmet
Some quick feedback based on the Kirkistown experience...
Pauline didn't get to go out on track as she had an inner ear infection that was messing with her balance and making her car sick, just standing up.
However, my (83yo) Mum came out for a fast run, actually my fastest of the day doing 69 second laps until the 4th gear synchro started playing up.
Paulines Cousin and his wife also met us at the track and they both went out for passenger runs. The new helmet was able to accommodate all three different heads without issues.
I did notice some of the MX5 drivers using helmets that I'd never seen before and have also just worked-out why.
They looked like this.... and I've just seen them here...

Re: Trackday Helmet
There's no scrutineering at Kirkistown as they take the view that adults are responsible for there own safety, plus, if the organisers were to check cars and/or equipment, then they could be held responsible if anyone was injured.
I must admit that I tend to agree with them.

Re: Trackday Helmet
I have just bought 2 x cheapos (Shox ) for £40 each ready for my track day in Dec with my son.
It says they meet Euro regs and are Motorcycle, Scooter helmets so I hope they are OK?
Its £10 to hire on the day but thought it made more sense to buy If im doing a few track days.
Surely if they are fit for road use they must pass the Scrutineering ?
Will see.

Re: Trackday Helmet
Hi Folks,
Sorry to revive this old thread.
I don't own a helmet so I'm looking into one now. Given that I'm only likely to do a couple of track days per year, I don't want to invest £100's into a new lid. I've had a look and I like some of the OMP versions but I'm not sure what helmet regulation applies for track days? I've seen FIA, ECE, SNELL and it's all a bit confusing. Also, open or full face?
Thanks for the help!

Re: Trackday Helmet
Both trackdays I've been on have had a "does it look like a helmet?" policy.
If it looks vaguely like a helmet then they're fine with it. No checks on things like labels or standards.
So it all comes down to how much you value your bonce.
EDIT: I went open face as i wear glasses and dislike how a full face feels. Try on a few and see how you get on.

Re: Trackday Helmet
As with all these things, it rather depends on what you want. I was happy to buy a pair of full-face lids from Brands Hatch at the December trackday a couple of years back, they were hiring them out for £10 or selling for £20 (they had been the hire stock all season). Those have done us proud ever since. Full face helmets tend to muffle your voice a bit, so talking to your passenger becomes shouting, but aside from that they're fine - and you can use them in open-top cars, if you go for any passenger rides. Open-face halmets are good in that they're cooler to wear and allow you to talk more easily, but you can only wear them in hardtop cars.
As for regulations, there aren't any for track days for the most part, and if your car is basically in road trim then all you really need is a cheap open face helmet. If it's a stripped out race car, then safety gear becomes more important, but it doesn't sound like you're at that level yet. Pop down to your local motorbike shop, see what they have to offer - buy the one that fits best, they should be able to sort you out for about £50. Or take a punt on an online purchase and hope the fit is good, either of those options works.

Re: Trackday Helmet
Also check eBay. A few sellers sell helmets from previous seasons on there at a massive discount. I got mine from there for about £20. It's a Viper motorbike helmet but is ACU rated and has an integrated slide-down sun visor, which I've been very grateful for on a few occasions as it can be retracted between bends. Changes in sunlight on track are a pain. So it's highly recommend as a feature!
I got mine when I owned a convertible, but would get an open helmet for an RX8. I'll go open face for my next one. Think some open helmets also have slide down visors too.
