I went to a bike shop today and tried on a few hemets. As I imagined XL seems to be right. However I still ordered a helmet online but not the one I linked earlier. I got it from ghostbikes as it looked the balderdash :D but yeah I really hope it fits will be a shame otherwise.

Dave, he's got "sun roof" in his Sig

A sunroof lowers the roof and is known to cause problems when wearing a helmet :(

False, a lie told to you by lying dealers. If purchased online you have the protection of the Distance Sellling Regulation to return it within 7 days.
If purchased in store, you should have no need to exchange it as it should be fitted and correct for you at time of purchase. If the store offers a returns policy they can't stipulate helmets are excluded, they will try, but legally can't.

How many heads have tried on that helmet you are trying on?
How do you know the new boxed helmets "in the back" havent just been taken off the shelf yesterday and reboxed?

Re: Trackday Helmet

As far as I'm aware this is still the case

For safety reasons, helmets are not returnable, unless they exhibit an obvious manufacturing flaw (highly unlikely): They may have been dropped, rendering them useless, and there are also hygiene issues. In a store, "a dropped helmet is a bought helmet".

This is another reason I would never buy a second hand helmet

Also even if this is not the case you still wouldn't get an exchange or money back even if your in the right. I had on two separate occasion brought products ( not helmet) which turned out to be faulty. Even though I was in the right and even after many letters drafted up via trading standards, still didn't get any joy. My only option after the letters according to trading standards was take the maker/ seller to the small claims court , which wasn't worth the time and effort. So even though I was totally in the right I didn't get anywhere.

I've found that although you in the right , you still get shafted, the laws an arse

Taking a seller to the small claims court is just a few mouse clicks these days. Very satisfying and very easy :)

There's a good deal of discussion about them (the magic of google, but also especially on pistonheads.com), but the way I see it these seem to be a decent compromise between gettting a 'proper' car helmet (as opposed to a bike lid) and yet not spending hundreds of pounds. I shall be investing this week, and can report if people are interested...
Old thread update alert....

Adding to this, again following the Pistonheads advice i bought the tour open faced helmet from V2 sport. Seems to do the job nicely, meet lots of decent regs and well priced. I'd buy another trackday helmet from them

Matt - "snap" :D , I have the V2 tour open-face helmet too. I bought it because it was a good price with a good spec and, has been said already, it sits somewhere between a bike helmet and proper race helmet. Very pleased with it; very comfortable to wear.

I previously had a £30 helmet from "Ghostbikes" which was fine, but the thickness of protection on the V2 is far superior, with better cheekbone protection too.

Several members (including me) bought their first helmet from this supplier, highly recommended for sourcing a helmet for occasional track use.

I used to be an agent for KBC helmets....and I have some new, old stock ACU approved lids available if anyone is interested ? A mix of sizes, let me know what size and I'll tell you if I have it...I have some AR1's, VR1's and assorted others.....they were all £150+, I'd be happy to let members have them at £50, just to make some space in my workshop.....

Quick question.

A open face helmet I ordered arrived yesterday. I ordered size L which covers sizes 59-60.

I've not worn a helmet since my young days on a bike. Which being a full face helmet pushes your cheeks with the padding.

Are open face helmets supposed to do the same to a degree?

The helmet is easy enough to get on and once on my cheeks are pushed like a chubby baby face lol.

Thanks in advance

:D It does depend on the style of the open-face helmet. Some don't wrap around at all onto the cheek area and give little/no hamster look, others (which do offer more protection), do wrap around slightly and will give the hamster look ;)

I started with a £30 open face helmet (no problem with cheeks) and noticed, as I purchased a better quality ("Snell" approved) open face version that it does create hamster cheeks

Thanks.

It is a snell2015 approved and wraps around onto the cheeks. So the chubby baby face/ hamster look seems right then.
