To be honest your first track day will be daunting, well the run up to it anyway, you normal fears (as your expressed) seem to worry you.
but once actually on track you will relax and enjoy it, especially if you enjoy driving(which I presume you do as you own a RX8)
unless you are very,very unlucky or a complete idiot, you find its more dangerous getting to the track(on public roads) than on the track itself.
My first track day was at Brands Hatch, (doing my 3rd Brands on Monday)and you get hooked , the only reason I (and probably most other people) don't do them at every possible chance is down to the cost.
If you are thinking of doing one I would highly recommend going to one with a few RX8 members,(that's what I did for the first time) because they will look after you and give you all the help/advice needed.
