That's interesting info Maksym - as both Clare & I have done 4-person days with Andy it might prove useful for the upcoming trip to Angelsey. Did they ask for any proof of attendance as I don't recal getting a certificate or anything?

I think trackday insurance tends to be ~ 1% of the value of the car. Sadly REIS couldn't quote me for their road & track package as I live in Manchester & don't have a garage :( Have to wait 'til I move.

When I applied for my REIS cover last year, REIS did want to see the "Car Limits" certificate. I contacted Car Limits - they have a record of people who've been on the training days and were happy to email a "pdf" certificate which I forwarded via email to REIS. Very straightforward.

Coincidently, my REIS renewal quote arrived today. It's gone up about 10% on last year, now £569, protected bonus, including 4 trackdays, unlimited mileage. Additional trackdays are just £50, and need just a simple email request to setup the day before the event. So, still good value for money for me, as I'd be paying a minimum of £90 per trackday, so "normal" insurance works out at just £209, £569-(4x£90). I plan on doing at least 4 trackdays this year, maybe as many as 6. As I have two track sessions at Japfest I shall probably invoke my cover, just to be on the safe side! :D

yah i had to provide a scanned image of my mazda on track and rx8oc cards when i got cover with reis.

My last trackday cost £56 0.5% as casey mentioned

Im on 11.5k insured value with 8 years n.c.b with mods was around £600 for 5k limited policy
However mine does spend most of its life in a secure of road garage which does have a bearing on the insurance.

Car has finally got its new numberplate ;)

Reis have just quoted me £111.00 so i think i shall go for this.

they did it in two rather than half or full day and works out cheaper.

Do we need to take insurance docs etc with us?????????

Really cant wait.

Just had a quote from competition insurance, £663.64 for no more than 5000 miles/annum and includes 5 trackdays, car valued at £10000 with £250 excess on road and £1250 excess on track. I'm certainly considering it at the moment. Unfortunately the current insurance doesn't expire till July so I have some time to compare to other insurers.

Not bad, certainly get a quote from REIS to compare and post it up here please. Would be very interested to see the difference.

Quote from REIS is £588.27 for 5000 mile/annum. Only covers 4 trackdays but the track excess is slightly lower at £1000 (10% of value) but the normal excess is £300 and includes windscreen, protected ncd and legal cover. This also includes the discount for doing the car limits training course. Looks like REIS will be geting my business in July when the current insurance runs out

^^Iain - that's pretty much in the same ballpark as I'm paying for my REIS policy (just renewed it for 2nd year!).

REIS seem to be gaining a lot of business from rotary car owners interested in trackdays. It certainly works out a lot cheaper than paying "as you go" for trackdays. The simplicity of adding extra trackdays at £50 a time is also a massive bonus.

Well, I took the REIS insurance but in the end it cost £546 due to having to take my wife off as a named driver. No hardship really as she's never driven it in the 2 years I've owned it. Unfortunately her son pranged one of her cars 2 weeks earlier.

Has anyone tried Pace Ward for trackday insurance? I'll try getting a quote from them, as it's not a name I've seen mentioned here at all.

Just as on the road almost 50% of track day claims are not the fault of the driver but again you need track day insurance to get your car repaired as you can't claim off the person who hit you.
Hmm, in my experience I would say that in almost all instances a claim was down to the fault of the driver. IN 6 years I have only seen one case of car to car contact on a track day.

I got a quote from Pace Ward for the Blyton Park day on 6th Aug. For me they were more expensive than REIS - not by much though, only £16 - but their standard minimum excess is £1,500, seemingly regardless of vehicle value (whereas REIS was 10% of value).

Hi, I think I have (sort of) found an almost money-saving tip.

As I can't stop myself mentioning, I'm doing Spa and the Nurburgring on consecutive days in early April - how lucky am I?

But I'm looking to mostly practice lines and braking as much as I can beforehand.

So Nick from MoT has kindly provided me with 2 full days of tuition at Blyton on the 17th and 18th for £500. And, because I am having full-day tuition, my car insurance is costing a bit less than half what I have paid previously for just 1 day (with the car at same value insured).

So the tuition cost is effectively halved.

It seems that can be a really cost-effective way to simultaneously improve ones driving and get cheaper insurance =D>

^^^Nice one :D

If you are doing two full trackdays, make sure you have a spare set of front brakepads and the necessary tools to hand to change them. Better to be prepared than find you've run out of pads after day one and have to get home too! You may be OK, but if you really want to push the limits, and depending on your driving style, the front brakes take quite a pounding! Easy to change "in the pits" with the right tools to hand.

Make sure you've got plenty of spare tyre tread too. Again, the amount of wear will depend very much on your driving style. You may find negligible wear after two trackdays, or might lose 1mm or 2mm at the other extreme!

You will certainly need brakes for Spa, the chicain after Blanchimont and La Source are particularly heavy. The Ring should not be such as issue if it is your first time there.

Mark, it has to be your own call. Unlikely as it is, at the end of the day, through no fault of your own, someone might collide with you and you will not have any cover unless you take out specialist insurance. The risks, especially on a "closed" day, and on such a "benign" circuit are very low, but accidents can happen on any circuit.

I'm not sure what I will do yet, but with REIS it will only cost me £50 as an extra trackday on my policy (I've used up my 4 inlcusive days) so I'll decide last minute, as I always do  . It's all so easy as I only have to email REIS and it's done, so I'll probably book it the day before to give me peace of mind on the day.
