Post by PhilMac »

Hi All

Im going to the Mazda on Track car control day this Friday

Just wondering if there is anything (beyond oil, tyres) that I ought to be checking / altering from stock ?

for example should i leave tyre pressures as normal or up them a bit ?

any tips appreciated

Check your brakes! And brake fluid. Inflate your tyres a little if you think you will be doing hard cornering. Check engine coolant. Remove anything loose from the car. Have fun.

I never did anything other than check the condition of fluids before the day and brake pads / discs. I always left the psi at standard for the start of the day and then adjusted if I felt the need.

It's great fun and very addictive. Have fun :)

When I attended the same event last year I found the surface of the venue at Finmere to be quite grippy concrete.

It is not a track day event, you are learning car control in the safe environment of an airfield with two separate circuits marked by cones. When I did it there was a smaller circuit with a more technical layout in which I practiced flowing through a sequence of sweeping and sharp bends, and then there was the other larger circuit where you could pick up a little bit more speed but still had to deal with 'S' bends coming at you rapidly. By midday you'll be probably trying to go sideways at every corner so you may want to increase your rear tyre pressure at that point quite considerably. If you take the 3rd or 4th exit at the roundabout there's a Tesco service station a couple of miles down the dual carriageway... ;-)

Enjoy it and show us the pictures!! :)
