Gloucestershire Car show and Hill Climb Anyone, Sunday 24th September?

Post by willberry70 »

Hi All,
A fellow rotard just suggested this:
https://www.prescotthillclimb.co.uk/eve ... r-club-day

Sunday 24 Sept, 09:00 – 15:00

Prescott Speed Hill Climb , Gotherington, Cheltenham GL52 9RD, UK

It does look great fun and the RS Motorsport license is free for anyone who fancies doing the climb event.

Club ticket are £10 per car up to 12, if we can get interest.

If you also want to Hill Climb it's an extra £55.

If there's enough interest I'll get in touch with their events team and get us a stand :)

Will.

Please put me down for this event. It does clash with Go Japan at Brands Hatch but I doubt thats really any issue.

Whats the hill like to drive? Have a look here:

Pending my brakes sorted Will, I would be interested. At the moment stand only, will have a look at the run links and certainly would need brakes completed to attempt it.

I would imagine with its location, hopefully Dan may be able to nip down aswell.

What’s the brake issue you are having Drew? Standard brakes will be perfectly adequate for this event.

Lack of standard brakes aswell Chris. I've got a sticky front calipers on both sides, stripped them and found corroded pistons from lack of use most likely and sea air. Not much pads left and could do with changing the entire set up. However my philosophy of build is that when something brakes (pun intended), then upgrade. So BBK going on. Its still driveable for shows, bit squeaky every now and then but I'm not spending out on standard which would be a considerable chunk of a BBK. Just need said kit, I have a few options I'm looking at but lead times on all are likely not before this event.

Get a couple of rebuild kits and some Mintex pads. Nice and cheap solution 😁

BBKs with standard size discs will not stop the car any quicker than the standard brakes as the standard brakes readily overcome the available tyre grip causing ABS to function. The slotted, dimpled drilled versions don’t perform significantly better than plain discs.
What the BBKs do offer though of course is a bling factor as they do look good.

Oh yes, completely agree Chris. These are solely for looks and also the 8 is prone to sticky calipers. Hoping aftermarket will be less so. I rarely drive mine to anywhere near the point of needing any kind of uprated brakes or the full potential of the current oem. Its as you say purely bling for me. As is my GTR spoiler, and my pearly paint for that and the boot just arrived 😀

This is a great venue and you would surprised at the exotica that appears out if the Cotswolds area to attend. Plus you have the official Bugatti Museum there to look around which is fascinating.
Even if the club cannot muster a stand I will still be going and booking a hill run.

hillclimbs usually have 1 practice and 3 timed runs, with more if time allows, and less if there is a incident or weather makes it impossible.

Thanks Dan I hadn’t dug that deep. Not worth holding back booking stand places then if we are driving the hill. Probably possible to have rotaries grouped together in the paddock under the dedicated parking area allocation.
Best we get making our bookings.

EDIT: Free licence applied for and received, booking made and confirmation received. One less for a stand however!

It does look great fun and the RS Motorsport license is free for anyone who fancies doing the climb event.
Aren't Hill Climbs, like Sprints, considered "Speed Events" under RS Motorsport rules - requiring helmet (HANS?) / fireproofs / extinguisher etc.?
Or has the rules changed over past few years!?
Surely there's a cost of entry etc. too?

For standard cars yes to the helmets And overalls no To the rest

But that's for MSUK covered events I have no idea if that counts for the one in this thread
