Sudden end aside, it was a really enjoyable day and nice to see so many familiar faces there.

Had a great day amongst a great bunch of lads.
And the car made it through another trackday.
McDonalds then a long drive home.

Re: Snetterton 300 (Norfolk) - ***Friday 29th September*** SOLD OUT
Always great to see everyone, car was faultless as normal.
A few too many over powered cars thinking they owned the track for my liking, but still had fun.
Finished the day by knee capping myself on the tow eye while closing the bonnet, which is always pleasant
Until next time 🫡

That's a shame to end the day like that glad the driver is ok but sad to see the car like that, if that's the same mx5 I was on track with for a bit it really was going well.

Re: Snetterton 300 (Norfolk) - ***Friday 29th September*** SOLD OUT
Yep, those towing eyes really hurt. Sad end to the day for Nick and his car but fortunately only damaged metal.
Aside from a bit of clutch adjustment required my car performed faultlessly. BIG SHOUT out to Josh of TPS for coming to the rescue and adjusting my clutch which was transformed and the engaged much lower down but then I had to get used to that and numerous times I balked gear changes, but it was so much better.
Great to see everyone, have some catch ups and meet some forum names.
Next track outing will be the annual Brands Hatch trackday and dinner in December which I always look forward to.
Photos and videos will follow over the weekend.

Re: Snetterton 300 (Norfolk) - ***Friday 29th September*** SOLD OUT
Yep I've been there with the towing eye. Not pleasant.
Excellent turnout today and good fun as always. Getting a passenger ride in the A110 was a highlight. Impressively rapid.
A lot of red flags today, plus my car having cooling issues meant that I didn't get enough running in the morning. Then I lost time in the afternoon needing to change brake pads. It took me way too long to get up to speed today and the RaceBox post mortem has started, but it seems that I was faster through a lot of corners 2 years ago in the PZ (especially Riches, Oggies, Nelson and the final left). Not Coram though, so my poor performance today wasn't caused by a lack of balls .
Still the purple car has survived yet another track day, so that's good.
Shame about Nick's car. It was definitely surprising people as a capable track weapon.

Re: Snetterton 300 (Norfolk) - ***Friday 29th September*** SOLD OUT
Sorry i never got to speak with everyone.
Another good trackday with circuitdays with some smokey brakes and a visit to the pit box as they thought my car was on fire, apparently smoking for 3 laps and a strong smell of oil. No oil leaks were found.
However, I think my Diff has had it, Driving home was very interesting keeping it around 50mph with lifting off to avoid the sound, sounded like a M car diff.
Any got a spare R3 diff?

Re: Snetterton 300 (Norfolk) - ***Friday 29th September*** SOLD OUT
Good to see you all. Thank you for arranging that Nigel. Wouldn't have been such an epic turnout without you organising. The Snetterton MSV staff said they'd never seen so many RX8's there before. There were 3 black R3s, which is itself rare.
Thank you Malcolm for organising dinner.
That was a very good day and the weather was perfect. My own car was happy and my head finally clicked at the end of the day and remembered how I used to drive that track. A sign I need to get back to doing these more often.

Re: Snetterton 300 (Norfolk) - ***Friday 29th September*** SOLD OUT
Wanted to say thank you to the club members for a great day, I tried to get around and say hello to everyone I think I just about managed it, the day just seemed to fly by and I was probably a little jet lagged from only returning home late the night before.
Nick, sorry to see the poor Mx5, hopefully there are some salvageable parts to move onto your next project, never a good day if that happens!
I'm planning on doing a video of the day, the focal point being choice modifications and set ups for track/fast road use which is what we have been working on with Scotts car, it would be really helpful if you could through your go pro footage look up track times and post below. I'll also be linking to forum and circuit days in on the video. Footage also gratefully received.

Re: Snetterton 300 (Norfolk) - ***Friday 29th September*** SOLD OUT
I'll put my stamp on what a superbly organised track day and what an excellent track - that fully suits the RX-8... but big balls needed to fully attack as @casey manages!
Will have to return!
Long left-handers bought on my fuel cut issues (even with > half a tank), but more discussions confirms (and re-reminds me) this is most likely the filter in the fuel pump cradle... So I'll check out a replacement.
Sorry about Nick's coming together with the barrier, but glad everyone is ok.
I'll post up photos and video later.

Re: Snetterton 300 (Norfolk) - ***Friday 29th September*** SOLD OUT
Just a couple of photos from the superb day.
Clearly need some more practice, I just couldn't seem to get my braking and lines right! My best lap was 2:39.23 in the afternoon after Josh sorted my clutch, before lunch it was 2:47.75.
EDITED: Hmm! a while 19 sec slower than Malcolm which I out down to road tyres and him being a much better driver, oh and having a bridge port too!!
A couple of videos from the day; One is a boring sighting but shows the conditions at the beginning of the day, then there is me driving down the lane from the Airbnb and finally some proper track action video with Wayne being the star.

Re: Snetterton 300 (Norfolk) - ***Friday 29th September*** SOLD OUT
My 20th trackday at Snetterton and it never fails to delight. Even better when in a group of friends. Only marred by seeing Nick's car so badly damaged, but thankfully Rob unhurt. Lovely to spend some time with many of you afterwards for dinner.
I managed a 2m26.92 and lots of 2m27's when the track was clear. A shade off my PB of 2m25.42, possibly down to the tyres (595RSR's) being pretty "tyred" after 8 trackdays on them (plus milage to/from circuits), so content with that.
The 2m18.6 by Scott is awesome. I'd love to see the video of that, plus the specs on the car
Here's my best on Friday and my PB for comparison:

Re: Snetterton 300 (Norfolk) - ***Friday 29th September*** SOLD OUT
Real mixture of times. I was nearly 4s off my best with a 2:30.90. My min cornering speed was lower in a number of bends, which I'm putting down to Federals being 2 years older and the purple car not having a track geo, unlike the PZ. A very low comp engine may not be helping either.
I'll admit that I wasn't driving a few bends perfectly on the day either.
I should really try and complete the purple car's track transformation this winter.
Would love to know how Scott's car is set up. What tyres was he running Carl?
Even after getting my pressures optimised in the afternoon, the Federals were definitely at their limit in my final runs.

Carl listed it as a half bridge above. An extra couple of ports is cheating if that's the case.
If it is, then that lap time is a pretty good advertisement for one.

EDITED adding video linkChrisHolmes wrote: ↑Sun Oct 01, 2023 4:40 pmJust a couple of photos from the superb day.

Re: Snetterton 300 (Norfolk) - ***Friday 29th September*** SOLD OUT
Thanks for all the comments guys, we are trying to find the limits of the Rx8 and see what works and what does not in terms of a fast road/track set up from the time we are getting it appears we are on the right track, but I think there are still more tweaks to be made.
Scott's set up is the following:
Engine - 231 Prometheus Port (Half Bridge with a funny shape port which pulls about 250hp around 215-220WHP depending on dyno), obviously tuned by myself.
Ignition RRP 4.0 Coils
Suspension/Chassis - A mash up of BC coilovers with stiffer springs, Whiteline ARB's front and rear, RRP battery relocation kit, a custom RRP Fast road/track alignment (took a few goes to get this right and still refining).
Exhaust RRP Full system (DeCAT and back box) - was around 100db on the static test.
Intake - AEM with screens
Tyres Nankang AR-1's 245/40/R18 all round.
Videos to follow, still sorting them out from go pro's and been on a Pizza course today!
Scott wasn't happy with the time as I got a 2:16 with traffic in the Cayman: but to be fair he is well down on power!

Re: Snetterton 300 (Norfolk) - ***Friday 29th September*** SOLD OUT
Well done everyone it certainly looks like everyone enjoyed themselves
Great pictures and videos etc
I’ll post some thoughts on this circuit that I’m sure some may disagree with
A 231 with PZ suspension, semi slicks and just driver ( under 14 stone ) half tank of gas
Should be aiming for 2:20 ( when I say aiming for I’m not suggesting that anyone or everyone should achieve that )
An aim point is just that and an indication of what the car itself can achieve.
It’s more important for everyone to drive within their limits and have lots of fun whilst competing with their own times rather than other people’s .
Old tyres ( within sensible limits don’t make much difference ) on a hot day with reasonable track temperature .
People can attest to that when I drove Ranjan’s RX-8 at Mallory and I’ve raced on 10 year old slicks before.
Car set up can give you 6 secs a lap
10 HP may make no difference at all, its more important how the power is delivered than the outright HP.
A student at Castle Combe racing engineering college would approach racers with ( how would you like to go 6 secs a lap quicker ) he now works for Penske
Most students wanted to build engines
Practice is the main thing when a car is set up.
When I used to go to a new circuit I would be 6 secs quicker at the end
The above may or may not be useful to someone
Well done everyone
Regards
Pete

Re: Snetterton 300 (Norfolk) - ***Friday 29th September*** SOLD OUT
Just been looking through my videos and the best I was getting were around the 2.34's start of the racing drivers excuses, it was hard getting a clear lap where you weren't moving over for someone or being held up slightly.
I'm 15 stone and had my dad with me who is around 13 stone and the tyres are half worn Dunlop sport maxx rt's so road tyres, but all said and done don't think the car or driver did bad its basically a bone stock R3 with tein springs and a ebay sport cat.
The last track day I did there was 2016 in my 350z.
Impressive times by Scotts RX8 im assuming that's the one that overtook me a couple of times then was flaming out the exhaust into the corners was cool to see.
