Less than 10% of space left on this track day with Javelin now, so if anyone is having second thoughts about doing Bedford, then I suggest you get booked up as soon as possible :thumleft:

Ended up purchasing a place for this from Javelin earlier this month, haven't driven the circuit before (can't find it on any modern computer games) but it looks pretty straightforward and safe.

Weather's looking like it's going to be a washout so have fitted Rainsports.

Feels odd waking up so early, anyone know how much of a premium they charge for the fuel onsite?

Cheers.

No idea about Bedford. Other tracks have been around 10% or around motorway service price.

Well that was a fun day, even if rather damp - many thanks to Haydn (NewDuke) for the passenger rides, and Nick (13Black) for not being too critical of my driving.
Hopefully I haven't taunted the rotary gods, but I think everyone got to drive home this time! The worst casualties were a bit of an oil burp for untakenname, and my bruised pride / arse from an inability to stand upright on the wet floor of the garage! My shoes had less grip than Haydn's tyres!
No photos from me, hopefully some pics or videos from some of the others later.

For a first track day, I can highly recommend Bedford. So much space if you lose it (fortunately I didn't, but saw many spinners).

I need another track day now!!!

Good to catch up with people and meet other club members.

Shame MrsP unfortunately managed to fall last night and fracture her left hand, which unfortunately meant a morning wait at the walk in centre... :(

I guess Nigel will have to arrange another Bedford date, so we can do it again... so I can get MrsP to start being a track day addict too ;)

Well what a fantastic day we all had today and well worth doing another Track Day in December =D>

I got home about 30 minutes ago having had to stop at Cobham Services as I was falling a sleep :!:

The New Kumho KU39's didn't let me down once and the first time in 6 consecutive track days I didn't go off the track

The best thing of the day was the sheer company from everyone and great seeing Nick aka 13Black make a special appearance :inlove:

Roll on the next Club Track Day :thumleft:

Re: ^^^TRACKDAY,Bedford Autodrome Sat 1st Dec @SOLD OUT^^^

Post by untakenname » Sun Dec 02, 2018 11:55 am

Was a fun day with a variety of cars attending ranging in value from ones only fit for scrap (Micra and a Puma spring to mind) to dedicated track cars trailered to the track and expensive machinery like M4's and porsches as well as few cars who looked like they just stumbled onto the track.

Was told off after just a few laps for 'drifting' so had to keep traction control on to remain on track which spoiled the fun somewhat as dozens of people spun out that day and didn't seem to face any repercussions.

Had an 'oh crap' moment looking in my rear view mirror from a massive oil burp in the morning session which took a while to clean out of the intake, it smoked quite badly afterwards for about half an hour, unintended benefit it seems to have cured the hesitation I've been experiencing around 6k rpm, perhaps the oil lubricated the intake valves?
Image

Surprised by just how many drivers (myself included) put up their hands when the organisers asked who was here for the first time.
Lot's didn't seem to have had any previous track time at all on any track, braking way too early and not turning in enough (nearly ran into the back of a Golf R who braked after the corner!) and the blue flags weren't used enough, ended up repeatedly getting stuck behind fully stripped out Clio's and Honda's for multiple laps where I'd catch up and be held up in the corners then they would pull away on the straights which was annoying.

Decided to call it a day just after 3pm as the black flagged was waved at me, the marshalls said my discs were getting too hot (using hawk pads), was tempted to head out for one last go then saw an MX5 pull in where the marshalls completely saturated the brakes with the fire extinguishers so thought better of it.

Image

Leaving the aerodrome something had happened just outside and the police had set up a roadblock so was diverted down some single track roads for around twenty minutes, was getting apprehensive as the fuel light came on but luckily made it to the petrol station with a few litres left.

Overall it was a decent day despite the weather.

Have some video which I'll put up once I have the chance.

Well that was probably my favourite track day yet. Yeah I certainly put the wrong tyres on the car (how Liam has raced in the wet on 595 RSRs is a wonder) and had pretty much zero grip until the first dry lap at 15:30... which was also the final lap. But the company was excellent and I learned a lot.

Good to meet a couple of you for the first time and to have fun with the regulars. Thanks for having your club organiser hat on Nigel. Alan came out with me a couple of times and we had a few giggles.

Massive shout out to the-man-the-legend 13Black for replacing my engine mounts in the garage on the wet floor, while I just got in the way. Thanks to everyone who lent us their tools to get the work done.

And thanks to Ranjan for allowing me to take his place and garage. Incredibly kind of you.

A really good day that reinforced how special this OC is. High five to you all.
