***TRACKDAY, GOODWOOD, SATURDAY 31st AUGUST***

Post by casey » Mon Feb 11, 2013 4:25 pm

EDITED 12 Feb - main changes to original in RED

We have an opportunity of a trackday at this historic venue on a SATURDAY 31st August. This circuit is steeped in British racing car history (and WW2 history). Trackdays opportunities here are quite rare so I, for one, will be there if it pans out. Many of us will be familiar with Goodwood, owing to the annual "Festival of Speed" being held there. For those of you who don't know much about it, there is a link below, but the circuit is in a beautiful setting near Chichester on the South Coast. The track first opened to the public in 1948 and is derived from an ex-military airfield, RAF Westhampnett, which was a Battle of Britain airfield during WW2. Douglas Bader flew his last sortie form that airfield.

Due to onerous noise restrictions in force at the circuit the Track Day format of the day will be;
1. Maximum of 48 cars.
2. 4 x 15 mins sessions of 12 cars per hour (with some flexibility to move between sessions)**
3. 98dB static noise, with a 92dB drive-by.

**It was hoped to run an Open Pit Lane format, but the noise regulations dictate 1-2 minute noise gap every 30 minutes, so it is thought sessions would work better after all.

Price will be £249, a little more than some other tracks, but a very rare opportunity.

We need a MINIMUM of 15 cars for this event or it likely won't happen! I would ask that only people who are certain they can make it put their name on the list. I appreciate though that some people may have to change their plans later through unforeseen circumstances.

If you want some more information then HERE IS A LINK to the Goodwood official site.

The 2.38 mile circuit is pretty flat, fast and flowing. Here's a video to give you an idea of what it's like to drive it :D ;

I would stress to members that Goodwood are extremely strict on noise limits and that they will ask for ¾ of the rev range and not 4500rpm like other track days. They also have monitoring stations all the way round the track.. There are quite a few standard cars on the market that would fail.

My car was right on the limit and only has a Borla catback fitted.

Thank you - there was sufficient early interest to get the date for this event sorted - Saturday, 31 August

I would stress that Goodwood are extremely strict on noise limits and that they will ask for ¾ of the rev range on a static test. They also have monitoring stations all the way round the track.

Countzero's RX-8 was right on the 98dB limit and only has a Borla catback fitted.
Casey's Racing Beat catback exhaust typically registers 85dB on a static test, which is well within the limits.
A standard exhaust will have no problem with the limits.

Iain - I understand. I have a handheld noise meter you can borrow if that helps. Dead easy to use and the instructions are with the meter.

Would it be any use if I give it to Aston at the Brands Hatch trackday next Wednesday to take back with him? He can't be that far from you I'm guessing? Aston could give it back at an Essex meet or at the AGM.

BTW, our house smoke alarm measures 94.4dB(A) at 0.5 metres, so is louder than my exhaust!

Re: ***TRACKDAY, GOODWOOD, SATURDAY 31st AUGUST***

Post by Harrizone » Thu Feb 14, 2013 8:46 pm

Thank you - there was sufficient early interest to get the date for this event sorted - Saturday, 31 August

I would stress that Goodwood are extremely strict on noise limits and that they will ask for ¾ of the rev range on a static test. They also have monitoring stations all the way round the track.

Countzero's RX-8 was right on the 98dB limit and only has a Borla catback fitted.
Casey's Racing Beat catback exhaust typically registers 85dB on a static test, which is well within the limits.
A standard exhaust will have no problem with the limits.

PLEASE READ THE EDITED FIRST POST IN THIS THREAD TO RE-CONFIRM YOU ARE HAPPY WITH THE DATE, FORMAT, PRICE, ETC.
IF YOU HAVE READ THAT AND WISH TO TAKE PART, PLEASE (RE)ADD YOUR NAME BELOW.
WE NEED AT LEAST 15 PEOPLE TO SIGN UP TO MAKE THIS VIABLE.

Malcolm,

Do you intend booking a Travelodge or hotel ? if so which one as I might as well book the same.

Would it be any use if I give it to Aston at the Brands Hatch trackday next Wednesday to take back with him? He can't be that far from you I'm guessing? Aston could give it back at an Essex meet or at the AGM
That would be brilliant Malcolm if you don't mind.

@Ray - I'd probably opt for this one;

LINK

As it's showing £23 for the Friday night and it has free parking, unlike the town centre Travelodge. I'm going to leave it until next week, to ensure we get the numbers we need for the day, before committing to a hotel booking. I hope the £23 offer will still be around as it is some months away.

@Iain, no problems, I'll pass it on to Aston leave you to make arrangements to collect it from him. Just take the measurement at .5m from an the exhaust outlet at a 45 degree angle, as that is how they will perform the test on the day.

Here are the MSVT noise test regulations - Goodwood will operate something very similar;
