Nurburgring 2009

Post by brads rex » Fri May 08, 2009 9:21 pm

Having read with interest the thread on last years fun and frolics on the Nordschleife, i wondered if eney members are planning a similar trip this year ?, and if so which dates are under consideration ?.
Ill be on this hallowed "public road" again this july with several members of my local bike club between the dates, 13th -24th,
but anouther possible trip with the rex would be worth consideration. .brads.

I'd love to go again this year some time, was thinking of heading over in August/September time. Did a road trip around europe last June and loved every moment, especially the 'ring. Not sure if there are any other members planning on going over there this year, would be good to get a few of us together though!

I am planning on going at the end of August/beginning of September. I will post a thread after the LeMans trip in June to guage interest. Hopefully I will be able to interest NickD to go again as he is a fantastic tutor and ring meister.

Right people I am back from Lemans and ready for the 'Ring.

My dates are: Outward Norfolkline 4th September 2009 @ 0600
Return .. 7th September 2009 @ 1601

Cost now £53.02

Nurburgring: This is the same weekend as the Superbikes so if any of you want to we can go and watch them.

Touristenfahrten times are:
Friday 17:15 until 19:30
Saturday 17:15 until 19:30
Sunday 08:00 until 19:30

Don't forget that these times are generally pretty flexible and the ring does get closed fairly regularly for accident cleanups. Hopefully not one of ours.

Ring prices are:

1 lap ticket €22
4 lap ticket €75
8 lap ticket €145
15 lap ticket €250
25 lap ticket €390

I would recommend a 4 lap ticket to start with then see how you feel [-o< [-o<

Insurance prices from Moris will be approx £250 for 2 days.
At the moment they can't give fixed quotes as they are changing their underwriters

Hotel/apartments range from €25 to €35 per night/person

Food is widely available with a visit to the Pistonklhause a must for their steaks and atmosphere

So List time

Jang, what was the total cost of your similar trip last time?
Just trying to see if I can squeeze this in alongside the wedding (or should that now be Corvette!! ) costs; or if I now have to put off the good times till next year...

It depends if you take out a new set of tyres and how many laps you do, its about £1000 and I will be using my R888s this year so no rubber needed and I am getting a 25 lap ticket.

So ferry £53 + Insurance £250 + fuel £400 + Apartment £75 + ring ticket £350 + food £120 = £1248 approx

G-Man we could go the weekend before but there is no Friday session. If the general concensus of people is that they want to go the weekend before I'm easy but only if the majority of people want it. Who the hell is masel?

Hmmm, I thought the price would be something like that, which is probably a bit too much for me at this juncture.

So I'm now wondering if a day trip across to meet you all would be feasible and cheaper?? :-k

Depending on my condition after my july trip, id be up for anouther in sept. I did the superbike weekend four years ago and it was manic with bikes, personally i wouldnt want to do this particular weekend again.
The ring is always alot quieter on week day evenings, so for this reason i would travel out on sun 13th or mon 14th, returning on sun 20th or mon 21st.
The calender shows the ring to be open all week this particular week, with the advantage of longer opening on fri 18th 14.15 -19.30 and sat 19th 13.30 - 19.30, it also looks like theres tourist evenings on the GP circuit on mon 14th and tues 15th 18.00 -20.00. in addition the GP circuit dosent look to be in use over this weekend.
Ill keep watching this thead to see if eneyone is over on these dates. .brads.

As I said Brads Rex if the concensus is for a slightly different weekend I have no problem with that as long as it is nailed down firm and fast by the end of June THIS YEAR

Jan, you book what suits you mate 8) , we're gonna be in Cologne on 28th/29th/30th which is not as flexible as you as we're commited to these dates, you're right no Friday session, afternoon only on the 29th and an all day session on the Sunday

I'd generally NOT recommend going near any circuit when an international bike race is on.
It'll be impossiible to get anywhere and risk of abuse from bikers if you hold them up.
Been on the other side of that equation :) :)

Jang, from personal experience the superbike weekend is the worst for incidents ive ever encountered on the Ring, bikes in gravel traps, being badly cut up by GP2 cars, and one bike pirouetting on its foot peg on the exite of kallenhard,!
Getting a good lap is difficult at the best of times, and at twenty quid a pop it can get expensive, this is the reason i prefer weekday evenings, especially when the GP circuit is not in use at the weekend.
I appreciate work and outher personal commitments will mean meny members wont have the opportunity to go for a full week, but for first timers ( ring virgins) or the more experienced ringer i think weekday evenings are best.
Today ive booked mon 14th to fri 18th as holidays, but as stated alot depends on the condition me and the gixer are in after the july trip, !
the more i think about this trip, the more iam up for it. :D brads.

I thought id post something in a effort to stop this thread dieing due to lack of interest.
Over the weekend ive serviced the gixer and fitted two shiny new metzeler race tecs,so iam all set for the ferry on weds evening and the ring thereafter.
.
jang, are you still considering a trip in sept ?, i dont live that far from you (macclesfield) so we could travel over together.
.
I cant believe we are the only members of a sports coupe owners club who are considering useing our cars for the purpose intended. :P :P :P
