Northwest meets?

Post by thatturborx8 »

I have searched the forum and have noticed that there has not been a meet in the NW for quite a while.
Are they not enough owners?
I see the odd RX8 in my neighbourhood,a blue with MS bumper,a red with a big ole wing,a grey one which is always parked 500 yards from my house,a grey one which comes to the gym next to my work place,i know also two people in the Familia club living in the NW so there should be quite a few.
Is there no interest in the NW at all?
I mean i would be up for meeting on a Sunday, blast off to Lake District, have a nice chat, watch some views, have some fish and chips and come home🤷‍♂️or even a drive to Leeds or Liverpool on the A roads,go Tree Sisters for some messing about, something, anything🤣
I have attended a few meets Yorkshire way but would attend more if it would be nearer to my neck of the woods.
Any taughts?

you are welcome to arrange a meet, people might even turn up

i tried to set up a cornwall/devon meet but although reasonably well attended, interest in a 2nd meet just wasn't there.

Absolutely as James says, it may just be no one has organised one's. Im just firing up an oxford one myself for in the week, i know harry would be up for a yorkshire meet. If its more west towards chester i would likely go.

As for seeing familia and other rx8s. Start sticking some OC business cards on there windows. You will be amazed how many rx8 owners dont know of the club. Got to catch them when you can 😂

Also Silviu talking of meets, in april on the weekends im likely to do some dry runs of the Snowdon tour. Get some timings and scope some pull ins etc for breaks and photos. Quick recon mission if you fancy joinin me and coming across border. There is a new member in colwyn bay i will likely see if he wants to come for a drive and ill advertise it on FB to try and catch some local cars or chester area see if they want to come. We may get a few and be able to have a blast together and pub lunch while on recon.

In the same boat here in North Wales.
One of the best places in Britain to drive, and virtually no one around, I attend the Shropshire meet as the drive to it is a great excuse to give the car a blast and the people are great.
If there was one that covers North Wales Liverpool (Merseyside) Cheshire I'd be up for that too.

That sounds rather interesting,a track day without marshalls🤣
I would be more than happy to join at least one of the weekends and use it instead of my monthly track day allowance🤣

If the post gauges interest i could organise something no problem.
Where do you get the cards from btw?

We shall organise something in April then to have a good day trip, ill meet you by the border and we can go exolore. The more people who know the route on the day the better aswell incase we get seperated. Keeping 25 cars together will be challenging

Wanted to organise this for a while tried last year but it didn't happen there was a WhatsApp group that's been quite for a while because of broke cars / sorned cars last I knew but I could pop a message in their as well

I literally live next to the lake district we honestly have some of the best backroads around, I'm more than happy to try help organise a meet next month if we can get the interest?

Lakes motor museum car park could be a good spot to start for some drives out just after the main turn off into Windermere and just before the Coniston turn off (A590) plus it's got a cafe there as well

lots of loops to drive Keswick, Coniston, Windermere all have good loops to drive with great views, hardknott pass if you want some squeaky bum time, also got the road between Windermere and glen ridding has imo some of the best views on a 20%+ gradient usually get a lot of bikers and car meeting at the car parks / laybys before the steep gradient in summer

When you say local...
I drive up to an hour and a half each way to meet up with the Shropshire meet.
I can do Runcorn in an hour tops, but not aware of any decent roads.
An hour and a half would put you in Betws y Coed and some great roads, from Abergele to there as well as some good stop off places for a brew.
I'd be willing either way as long as the roads are good.

Sounds good to me :thumleft: ! Just open to what ever is going on. Be nice if there was a few more people to get a gauge of peoples locations but I'd happily drive to North Wales no issue!

That's fine with me. Does anyone else fancy a drive out post here and between us, perhaps we can sort something.
Sometimes, it just starts with 2 who post some images, and then others want to join in when they see what they are missing.

Start a thread. Nigel can assist in editing in lists etc like he has for the oxford one. Put it up, see who puts names down. Could even try a Mavericks night. Not too far from border to tempt members in.

As a Yorkshire lad I would be interested in meet ups local, and by that i mean a hour or two drive. Not far from Leeds so anything coast to coast M62 kind of area I'm in.
