Sadly, I recently had to restrict guests accessing that forum, as it was a frequent target of bots, resulting in over 3000 users logged in. This led to the forum becoming unresponsive.

Sorry James, I see what you mean now, on re-reading your post.
It's proving to be a nightmare. I've blocked HUGE ranges of IPs, but it's still a losing battle. As many as 3000 guests are online at peak times. I'm going to have to investigate another solution.
