Touch-up paint pens/stick for 'sparkling black'

Post by Papalima »

Does anybody know whether these are stocked anywhere in UK? I've found a website in US which sells them, but by the time you pay for delivery etc, they cost £40-50 a pop -

To be honest if you are planning on keeping the car I find you get better touch up paint by getting a spray can made up at a local car paint factors, the paint is good quality and thinner to apply than a stick I get a 400 ml can for £11.75 it cost a bit more but you get a lot more paint. :-k

As luck would have it, i've actually got two of the Mazda rattle cans for sparkling black! Not sure if you're able to post rattle cans, but I usually buy mine online so I assume so. If you want one or both of these and that would help out I can let them go ;)

Just like Velocity Red Sparkling Black fade slightly into Sparkling Slightly Greyed Black. You wont go far wrong with those cans from Harry but wioll probably require a can of clear lacquer too.

I could get you a touch up bottle for any colour you wish.
We have an Octoral paint mixing system at work.
Be about £20 for the bottle which comes with a fine brush enlosed in the cap.🤷‍♂️

Thanks, it’s only for a very small area on the bottom of the wheel arches which had surface rust., actually now wondering if I could just use any white paint for that now…

I'd be keen on a mixed velocity red can to touch up a few tiny chips, if you can oblige Silviu? Thanks.

Be aware the VR comes in many different shades, even from the factory and you can get a variation in shade, even from one end of the car to the other.

Back when the cars were new, we had two members with VR cars in the Essex area meets.
If they parked next to each other, one facing in, one facing out, then from one end they looked a perfect match, while from the other end, one was clearly more orange, while the other was heading towards pink.
It was their little party trick to deliberately park like that and show people.

Add a few years, with cars parked a particular way around in the sun, and who knows how many shades result.

I recall someone taking their fuel filler flap into the paint supplier for a custom matching, having replaced the driver's side front wing with a VR from another car, that was clearly not the same. After going through the paint shop, the result was worse. He really should have offered-up that filler cap to the bonnet and door, to see the difference first.

VR for the RX8 is only standard VR but the paint has a few versions that have changed depending on yearsm
For touch ins there should not be an issue.
Issue becomes obvious when multiple panels are painted and no blending techniques are used.
The 8 which i bought for myself recently has a quarter in a different shade, the front bumper in a different shade, the boot in a different shade and the car in a different shade therefore i will paint the full thing :P
