Post by Project-RX8 » Wed Jul 04, 2018 11:25 am

Does this net any gains on a RX8 or not advised?

I have a spare kit, i could install.

Yeah the main gain would be with FI.

A lower intake temp and a slight boost in octane would surely help all setups?

I guess the question is, would the small gain outweigh the weight of the kit with a full tank? possibly not.

It would allow you to advance the ignition timing for more output however tuning the PCM for this could be tricky depending on the system you have. The benefits are outweighed by the cost and effort rather than the weight of the kit, for an NA setup.
Phil's subtle sunlight silver - stronger, faster, with added red bits and stuff engine donor!

E85 requires about 30-40% more fuel compared to petrol so you would be doing 100 miles to a tank probably

And you can't raise the compression, or easily boost, so E85 doesn't actually help a lot.

It does help increase the knock limit though
and these triangles of wonder are certainly limited by ignition timing

With the rich AFR requirements we already have running petrol - considering how much more E85 needs to be injected for the same power... would there be any combustion chamber volume left for oxygen

Hydraulic lock does even more damage than premature ignition
