best aftermarket cat?

Post by 350matt » Sun Jul 02, 2017 9:02 am

Hello All

my car came with a 'ghetto' decat unbeknownst to me so come november time I'll be needing something to pass the MOT

I see lots of reports that the cheap ebay and eurocar parts cats are no good and will last about 3 weeks

so my question is are there any good quality aftermarket 'sports' cats that will pass UK mot and not fall to bits in 3 weeks? trying to wrap up a small power gain with something I can keep on the car

A reasonable sports cat seems to be the Toyo :thumleft: .. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/EXHAUST-HI-FL ... Swwo1XeoDL .. and passes MOT emissions too!

Mine went for mot in may with toyo hi flow cat as above maybe it was just me being unlucky or the tester was being very by the letter bit not only did mine fail on emissions also failed on "no cat fitted were one would be as standard"

The KKS sports cat sold by Rotary Revs is a terrific piece of kit and adds a nice growl too. Not cheap though.

Another vote for the KKS sold by Rotary Revs. They are not resonated though so there will be a noticeable difference in volume over standard.

If it's just for MOT time, you could see if anyone in your area has a spare cat you can install for the day of the test. That's what I do, and then if you ever do get stopped with your ghetto decat it looks exactly like a stock unit, so you can play ignorant quite easily. Pongs a bit mind.
To Do List: HKS CAMP2 install; cruise control; new exhaust; detail paintwork, possible respray

Done: Hayward Rotary rebuild and stage 2 port; Racing Beat ARBs, adjustable front droplinks, ram air intake and lightened flywheel; Exedy stage 1 clutch; Eibach Pro-Kit lowering springs; Koyo radiator; heated front screen; EBC redstuff pads all round

My current plan is to make my own, as there's an dev exhaust I can raid for a 300 cell ceramic cat and then cut out the empty shell of my existing pipe and weld the new cat can in place
