Sump options; greedy or ?

Post by Velocity_Dan93 » Sun Jul 17, 2016 10:06 pm

Looking at swapping the sump the next time I do an oil change and the main the one I can find is the greedy sump which seem's to have lots of good beinfits. Does anyone sell these other than pettit ? Or are there any other options on the market ?

Essex Rotary also do a baffled plate. Which is what I will be going for when I need to next get my sump off.

Yes they do fail and start leaking. Dont be poking it about just in case you put a hole in it.

If you order it now, it doesn't matter how quickly it would potentially leak :D ;) ;)

Thread de-railing a bit here, but I guess its Greedy upgrade, new or used are only options to replace?

Mine at MOT on ramps, guys said it looked probably worse than is, overall some parts of car didn't look to rusty or as bad as I thought could be.

There is also the rx8 performance one.

I have the greedy one, with the Essex rotary baffle plate, if I was buying again is to rx8performance one to gain the extra oil capacity.

How much extra capacity is the rx8performance one? The greddy sump already has 0.6l extra capacity over standard.

I don't know exactly, but John (Cabriolet) puts in significantly more oil than me, somewhere near 7 litres iirc

Is this something you want me to look at producing?

Would need confirmed orders to do so though.

Don't forget, our cars already have a higher oil capacity (6.7L) than a standard US spec car (5.8L), as we have twin coolers rather than just one.

I'm not at all convinced that there's any advantage in further increasing the capacity, in fact there's the major disadvantage of it taking that much longer for the oil to reach full operating temperature.

Most engine damage is done between initial start-up and reaching that critical point.
