Report of a remapped R3

Post by RX8R3Rod » Wed Aug 14, 2013 5:36 pm

Hi, this isn't my story so I won't mention any names (though hopefully the club members can add some more detail if they're so inclined) but I have had a report of an R3 being remapped to good effect:

"Hi mate, I've spoken to (club member). He's had a dyno session since the remap and the car is putting out 210.3whp at the wheels which equates to 252bhp. Before the remap from turbo pacs in durham his dyno results were 185whp."

And, as I understand it, we're definitely talking an R3 :D

And as I understand it (though could be wrong) the results were taken on the same dyno.

Good result, eh?

Now let all doubters doubt forth ... :D

Unfortunately I know not a whit more than I put in the original post, but perhaps the club members who know more may tell us. [-o<

But remapping an R3 is pretty unusual in itself, let alone the fine hp results. :D

Well ive used tubby pacs with my Celica there pretty good "expensive" but good, again id say show the graph and prove it as there not a specialist on rx8, there more turbo and diesel specialists

Anyone needs there details I can upload there address n fone etc

Tubby pacs is in Durham city, Dragon vil industrial estate if I remember correct 'litterally behind a tescos supermarket

Hi, I've seen the printouts both before/after of this. I just don't want to name names or anything else as it's not my place to, he may want to keep his R3 as unique as possible for as long as possible. The person that has had it done is a forum visitor so I'm sure he'll be along soon to tell us about it if he wants to.

He has had other mods done such as a full revi breathing system etc but as far as I'm aware his original dyno results were after these mods so the gain in bhp is simply from the remap.

All this coy-ness is somewhat vexing. Personally I'd like to see before and after performance figures.

Great news for R3 owners but a little sceptical if I am honest. And the question remains (how safe is that power) mant mappers don't understand the importance of running these engines rich.

You don't want to run them too rich but leaning them out beyond about 13.4:1 AFR at load reduces the life of the side seals considerably.

It's not "coyness" it's just simply not our places to tell the story. If I was one of the first to have my car remapped and then somebody else came on here and gave all the details away before I had chance to myself I'd be pi**ed.

I think Danny has a point there, about it's only us nerds who do this sort of thing all the time.

I must admit I was amazed when I heard, as the guys in the US haven't managed it in a meaningful sense yet, though Amemiya has been doing it for at least 18 months to 2 years, I believe.

But GroupB also claim to be able to remap R3's and I'll find out in 2 weeks time. When I will post whatever results I get. :D

So people say it has happened, but no one has either the name of the tuner nor the dyno sheets (for what they're worth) nor any performance figures.

Hard to get excited about this really.

Ook, so regarding this r3 and all this pi55ing around

Am thinking im gunna give tubby pacs a call cos there only 20mins away from me and ive had work done from them before on me GT4

Seriously tho, a secret guest "what the fcuk" just say who its a damned public forum and saying Darth Vader. Etc doesnt give anyones secret identitiy away my god how childish

If I remember correctly ive got the direct of tubby pacs on me facebook 'need to look into that' if u watch the clip its the chap at the front with another camera by the looks

The secretive side of it all, if its been said etc on here then yeh share the person or the link so we can all see. Being secretive over current projects fine "im doing that now, giving little info" but I'll share once completed plz remember this isnt MI5, the official secrets act really isnt a secret sub section to signing up on here

You've totally misunderstood the reason we don't want to say anything. It's purely out of courtesy nothing less, nothing more! Anyway, as pointed out above, the guy already posted in the "what have you done to your rx8 today" thread.

Okay, back away from the keyboards people. This is an interesting development and potentially good power increases for the R3 however we still have little to go on other than a video and the owners figures. Performance comparison would be ideal.

So Lenny just got in touch with me to air his view on here as he isn't a paid up member so can't access this part of the forum.

He'd like to make it clear that the before and after results were on different dynos. His friend has a completely stock R3 being remapped over the upcoming months with no extra mods and will hopefully provide us with a before and after from the same dyno.
