Deletion of 2ndry air pipe

Post by 350matt »

Peeps

I have a theory that the link pipe for the secondary air pipe has a negative effect on the tuning ( such as it is) of the exhaust

I did an experiment on my tubular manifold a few years ago where I blocked it off so each port was closed and found the airflow was increased at lowish rpm ( 3000rpm or so)

sadly no dyno results to back this up but being as I had to add more fuel I felt it was worthwhile

had to switch back to the OEM manifold because of the usual cracks and falling to bits of the tubular bit

has anyone else tried this ?

The cheap tubular manifolds make a bit of a bodge in the way the Secondary Air is connected - very much an afterthought.

Whether the "improvement" you describe is from the edge effect of each hole into the tube, or the cross-connection of the tubes, is debatable.

Many people remove the SAS itself anyway, with no ill effects, as long as they also map out associated CELs.

Some have "tidied-up" rather than just block off the SAS-in port on their aftermarket manifolds, but I don't expect anyone has back-to-back dyno checks or any such evidence, where this is the only change between.
