Quick trackday report:

Had a good morning, car not written off yet, although it has a few issues that I found

The day started off wet and quite greasy but dried up fairly quickly with the sun and wind.

The issues...

No ABS, as BigPete experienced when I braked a little later and harder going into hall bends

Scrubbing on the front wheels which got progressively worse as the track dried and I went faster

I'm still having issues with coolant. The system isn't drawing coolant back in from the expansion tank when cooling. Possibly the radiator cap. I did get a replacement but it doesn't hold any pressure so it's no good

And finally.. Jon, I feel like you've jinxed me! overboosting above 4.5k - I'm not sure what's caused this, I don't remember seeing or feeling the boost going over 10psi but it was reaching 15psi - I might just get a boost controller to go with the PFC and tune to higher boost

Have you got a boost gauge?
Are you taking to track b4 a tune?
Just checking but if the boost creeps up...she will blow up...
So I used the rev range below 4.5k and still moved at a half decent pace. Faster than my RX-8 felt which was surprising. Not only that but the FD got some attention, I saw someone walk over to take photos of it and another person found me and handed me his card to say he's taken photos of it on track. I feel like royalty now!

I decided to call it quits at lunch because of the weather...

Get a cap from Clive...all the bay 1s have passed ive bought.

Overboosting? Decat downpipe and hiflow exhaust? Wastegate on the twins coupled with the increased free flowing exhaust is just to small.
Carl Hayward tried to tune my creep out on duty solenoid but to no avail....he suggested a orifice plate in downpipe to centre section....
I made 3 at work...2.5" hole in middle 13.5psi dead all the time now. Flange gasket orifice plate gasket flange...easy peasy.

Boost controller wont work...ive got 1 disconnected installed in my car...a Gizmmo ibcr..thats tuneable for duty cycle per 500 rpms....it wouldnt hold boost 100% open.
The twins wastegate just wont flow enough when exhaust flow upped. Think i got 2 orifice plates still in garage...ill have a look tomoz open the 2" up to 2.5" voila.

Intake, catback, I wouldn't be surprised if the cat was hollow. I want to check the cap again, I got it from Clive!

Interesting thought about the plate in the exhaust though

Maybe do a vac test...if you got a weep on those newly installed turbos you never find it due to evaporation...
Maybe a 2 tablespoons of kseal? Wont do any harm.

It's worth doing a quick champagne test, just to be sure there isn't any pressurisation of the coolant through a failing seal, this was the cause of the not "drawing coolant back in from the expansion tank when cooling" on Buttercup.

At least if yours is clear then you know it's not that.

I'd done one a few days ago, got some tiny bubbles, shown a few people and they don't seem to think it's coolant seals.

Jon I'll do some vacuum tests and see what happens. I did note a hose had blown off the night before so I swapped it out and zip ties it. So not out the question

Thats prob not the best seal...so pulling air back in via that hose as opposed to drawing coolant back through cap and overflow under headlight. I vac tested mine at 1bar for 10 mins..all good.

That's not mine in the video above, it will old 0.9 bar for a while. Drops to about 0.8 after an hour. 0.5 after 12 hours. Slight seep from one hose and the filler to block

Yeah, after seeing that one you're right. I'll get a new clamp for the hose that's leaking. Hopefully find out what's going on with the over boosting. Think you're probably right though Jon about the exhaust

People used to port the wastegate on the twins for better flow. If you look at it its tiny...ok std boost pattern but once asking more its just not big enough. So exhaust gases still spool turbos...
Mine with a 2.5" orifice plate spools up mega makes 13.5psi bang on pull after pull...its plenty fast circa 320 bhp. And at less than a bar turbos should last.

I've got a leak somewhere anyway so could replace gaskets. I take it a Dremel and grinding stone would work fine, polish off with sanding drums

93 RX-7 FD Project

Post by GreySilver Beast » Sun Dec 15, 2019 8:18 pm

It was great seeing Adam's car finally back on the road following me all the way to Cadwell =D> , even though the Sat-Nav got it slightly wrong when we left the Shell Garage

It was a good job Adam quit after lunch as both Ranjan and I remarked that he would of probably written off his car as the track was very slippery :!: :!: :!: :!:

I'd just like to point out that it was Nigel's satnav that went wrong!

I decided to cut my losses when I saw it was snowing. I managed to join my work staff Christmas party though so not all bad news
