Dave's black S1 231
Hi guys,
Just making a little project thread for my Rex so I can document what s been happening with it. Feel free to have a read etc but I won't be offended if you get bored and give up
After months of searching, found an rx8 for sale in Scunthorpe that was exactly what I wanted, standard, black, 231 and bags of servicing and repair details! Got my friend on the go and an hour and half later we arrived to look at the car.
Car had been premixed and guy that was selling it had only been owner from the November (this was in January 2017) and clearly didn't know much about them (I'd been reading up for a long time haha). Also found that the car had had a mini map and limited to 4.5k revs when cold 3rd. Needless to say I snapped his hand off and drove the car 1 and half hours back home again! Smiles all the way!
Here's a pic of when I got her

Re: Dave's black S1 231
Within a week I realised something wasn't quite right and that heater were only blowing cold and engine getting hot very quickly, got it straight in at the garage and turned out the coolant system had a leak on 1 of the pipes due to a failed clip and £6 later car was running perfect again!
Next step was to get an exhaust for it and having found a local one that was decat and cat back toyo system, got straight round to get it fitted! Whilst there also had a compression test done and got 6.1 across both rotors pretty evenly so not perfect but also not the end of the world as car ran so nicely!
Within the month id also got the windows tinted in hopes it would stop the leather from burning when been parked in sunlight (it didn't!) But it also set the car off better as well! Whilst in for it's mot, brake pads were looking a little worse for wear so took this chance to upgrade to grooved discs and EBC pads and what a great difference to braking that made! Even my local rx8 guy commented how much better my brakes were in comparison to his! Highly recommend those.

Re: Dave's black S1 231
Just got car back today after being without all week and absolutely buzzing at how she's looking now!
Sills have now been replaced, aero kit installed with a cheeky different front mudguards instead of the usual ones and wheels have now been fitted! Also had aem cage resprayed in car colour and catch can fitted and absolutely over the moon with all of the build quality and end result!
Side note, I realise it won't be everyone's taste the wheels and I didn't think they would be mine but when I seen them on I really like them! Will live with them for the next couple months and may have them refurbished over winter in different colours haven't decided yet

Re: Dave's black S1 231
Next up is to get the Ryan Rotary 'sohn' kit fitted and change the hoses to blue silicone ones for that and the oil catch can. Then have the d585s fitted as well. Then to have new boot that's been smoothed off and debadged with hoop spoiler fitted as well! Coming along nicely so far and I'm very happy with it

Re: Dave's black S1 231
Looks very smart, who made it?
Guessing it would work with an AEM.

Re: Dave's black S1 231
Matthew Teare made my surround I just designed what I wanted and colour matched rest haha he's very handy for fabricating things he's made my d585 bracket as well haha does virtually all work on my car but I'm presuming I'll get in trouble for advertising as he's not a paid trader in forum lol

Re: Dave's black S1 231
Busy weekend this weekend, finally got round to doing the following:
Oil change and filter - been meaning to have done a while but prioritised other things first but finally done!
D585s finally in and fitted! Not really had her for a proper drive yet but it does seem smoother at lower revs but that could be placebo effect haha
Another compression test and spark plug clean just to check things over and same results as last test 4 months ago so happy with that! Which means that one of my coils was likely about done and not working properly thankfully they're changed now!
New door cards are all fitted now wanted something to break all the black up in interior and found some special edition ones so they are in now.
Bead blasting brake calipers then paint calipers blue, dust shrouds and discs black.
Very happy with the work done not too much noticeable this time but definitely jobs I'd been meaning to get done!

Re: Dave's black S1 231
Little update, bought some more bits and pieces to fit to car which aren't on yet (watch this space haha) and in true diva style, she's decided to throw and tantrum now it's nearly Christmas and hasn't been getting spoilt and burst an oil line all over works car park luckily Matt was on hand with a spare and a spare hour while i was working and got the job repaired! It was the passenger side oil cooler line and Matt also found that the oil cooler was also seized and replaced that too!
Now if she could only behave until after Christmas

AEM copy replaced with genuine and full clean and check over of the ignition system, maf clean, ess clean and general clean all over engine bay haha wasn't quite running right at low revs and getting even worse mpg than usual but that seems sorted now!
