Wiggles Galaxy grey 231

Hi, Just been and paid a deposit on my first RX8 so thought I would start things off with a few pictures as I should have her in the next few weeks.
Image]

Car is a 2006 231 with 54k on the clock, you might notice the front looks a little high in the pictures that is because there is no engine in it!

Will be having a full "gold" rebuild rotary motion engine put in it, I have also agreed with Chris he will swap the wheels as they are a bit bubbled and tatty, so by the time I pick it up it will have some much better condition wheels painted a dark grey/anthracite colour that were sat a spare car in the workshop.

There is some surface rust on the front of the rear arches at the bottom, underneath is a bit flaky but seems solid enough so will be tackling that asap and getting it off and giving it a good undercoat before winter comes around.

Still have my other car to sell before I can collect it, but should have it in a few weeks then time to run it in gently and see where I go from there...

Edited as photobucket sucks

Looks very shiny in those pictures.

I hope you (and the car) stay around for a good period of time as it'll be very interesting to hear how your Rotary Motion rebuild performs.

Best of luck with it. :thumleft:

i hung around there for a good hour or so making my mind up (well also drooling over the veilside Rx7) and spoke to a guy who came in with his car for an oil/filter change after a rebuild and his is running great apparently he seemed happy. Also gave them a hand pushing apprentices fiesta onto a trailer so he can take it home to fix it... lives 3 hours away!

Apparently photobucket has decided I can't share photos anymore, so will edit the previous post when I have some pictures. Old car is going in for repair so I can hopefully sell it ASAP and pickup the rex soon.

For now here is a picture of the only part for it I actually have lol

They will have the same poke as standard wheels do when fitted with 20mm spacers, which will be perfect with those springs :thumleft:

Yeah thats my thinking, pretty much 20mm further out and about 6mm closer to the suspension which I think (hope) should be fine.

Dropped them off for a refurb, guy isnt 100% sure he can do them as the chrome finish under the white might not come off properly and says the powdercoat wont stick properly. Worse case they will be stripped as much as possible I can paint them

Wheels back from being stripped and sanded. All nice and smooth ready for me to ruin with my terrible painting skills

Bargain for such great wheels, if you not into the lightest wheels, and not scared of welding, pretty easy to raise the ET offset, making them look amazing for stance project :D

Yeah with paint they should owe me about £200-£250. Weighed one earlier at 10kg which isn't bad for a 9inch that cost £100!

Also just got a delivery from "Mr Nut" just some steel 12x1.5 thread wheel nuts from a something OE spec but 17mm hex so easier to fit in the new wheels

Right so preped one of the wheels so far... taking my time as still not decided on the colour.

Hopefully my car is going in for repair now so then I can slap a fresh mot on it and get it sold and go pick up the Rex!

Considering getting a port done on the engine, as well I can as its in bits and (hopefully) wont be again in the near future.

Started to get the wheels sorted now I've ordered the paint.

One done and one as it was from being stripped
IMG_20170714_205944.jpg
Both done with coarse and then medium grit, getting them all done to this level just to get rid of the marks then will do them all with a finer grit before primer.

I did consider that but the inner lip (where the spokes are attached) and the sides of the spokes are a kind of rough textured finish so you can't polish it. So just going to paint.

Got the first wheel primered, few little bits of crap landed on it (to be expected outside) by done a few decent coats so should come out when I get the 1200 grit on it before paint.
IMG_20170717_125830.jpg
Pic taken before I did the other side but have primered 100% of the wheel to protect it, obviously the rim bed won't need painting but thought it was best not to leave bare metal.

Painted wheel one with predictably disappointing results, added loads of coats of paint, only one little run, put the clear coat on.
IMG_20170718_141229.jpg
But now it just doesn't look white enough, still has a greyish colour. So will have to try again...

Better collour but not perfect finish, will try harder with the others then come back to this one if I can improve!

Right so should FINALLY be picking up the rex later this week as my car will be gone in the next few days one way or another.

Its getting a streetport because... well why not. Plan is to buy some D585s soon just for peace of mind, give it a good clean underneath and underseal before winter, get the wheels fitted will swap the tyres or buy new ones depending on the condition of the ones that come with it. Then I will be looking to change the exhaust just because I cant go having it sound standard can I?

Then at some point tackle changing the springs over and just go from there when that lot is done.

It's home!

Few things to sort out, the airbag light came on for a bit. Been told it's probably a loose connection under the seat I'll have a look myself if not I'll take it back for them to have a look at hopefully I can sort it myself. 2nd is I asked for the wheels to be swapped to these painted set of a scrap car they had without looking too closely at them. They have 4 good tyres... Just three different brands and 2 different sizes!

Put my knob in it

Also how the hell do you fit this thing on a keyring?!?
