Main reasoning* behind the black version is I know what's out of this kit as all my other tools (except impact sockets...) Are silver so I can tell what goes where more easily and tell if my mates are trying to steel my tools when I invertible lend them out. My impact gun gets used more by other people than me...

*And black is cooler

So still need to change spark plugs, also looking for a new MAF/IAT sensor to try that. Cars starts 100% fine when hot but struggles sometimes if slightly less hot 40-60 minutes cool down and still struggles a bit from cold.

Changed the sparks today making full use of my new tools

Cold start exactly the same as before new(to me) MAF shouldbe here soon so that's the next thing.

Really struggling to understand what the issue is, cold starts are difficult, after a drive if I turn the engine off and try and start it again immediately it fires up instantly couldn't be better, but in some circumstances like earlier where I had been stationary for a while at the local car washing establishment I then went across the road for petrol and after filling up it was slow to start again, but then I drove down the road to Sainsbury's parked and then tried it again and started instantly after stopping there.

I guess if the IAT sensor is knackered the Being stationary/car left with hot engine for a while is making the under bonet temps higher and possibly throwing it off more than if it's just been running?

May have already covered it - but what's the starter motor like? That's been known for causing slow start issues on cold.

With the plugs out it'd be a good time to do a poor man's comp test to check for even chuffs, if a proper comp tester isn't available.

You'd think with all these new compression testers out there we could arrange a relatively cheap hire scheme.... (hint for anyone listening that fancies hiring one out)

On my own and near a busy road so wouldn't have heard anything apart from lorries unfortunately... The fact that it starts best when hot as it possibly could be make me hope compression isn't the issue. Still has warranty until August on the engine worst case anyway

I don't -think- the car uses IAT when starting (happy to be told otherwise) and will start/idle with the MAF disconnected altogether - from memory it just has a set injector pulse width or something. Might not be worth taking too much resources exploring. A datalog of various conditions etc should say if it's misreading as I have plenty of data to compare it against.

Easy enough to swap to rule it out but that doesn't sound promising.

The fact it starts perfectly from a bump start still makes.me think it's some kind of problem with voltage/earthing while cranking... Always starts and runs fine just s case of how long it takes to start

I'd be surprised (but therefore mistaken) if it's cranking at 340rpm with a bad connection - rarely get healthy R3s crank quite that fast. But, it's another quick/cheap thing to check, so no harm in doing so!

I haven't done that actually... Will try that as well.

My obd reader started playing up shortly after that reading so I don't trust it's accuracy tbf.

Will definitely try that sensor next, thanks

Thanks Wayne I'll be away this weekend (not in my car) but will see how things go and having a few parts to swap for elimination could be useful.

Electricity is not my strong point so correct me if this might blow up my car... But for elimination purposes could I get another ground wire from battery to somewhere on the chassis just to try and make sure that isn't an issue?

That's a good diagnostic check; run a jump lead from the battery negative to the lifting eye on the engine block, and see if it makes any difference.

Hasn't changed the start but was a lot cleaner than my MAF so seems a bit smoother through the revs, thanks
