Brix's R3. 'Blue Magic'

Post by brix79 »

Yes, some of you read it right, I began looking for a replacement, and yesterday I found her. And drove her home.

I've not taken any pics of my own yet, they will follow. There are a few minor things to work on, and now that I have a new start, I can finally have the project thread I've been meaning to do for about 3 years..

26k on the clock, registered in Sept 2010, and drives as mint as you like. Was a Cat D early on in it's life, but the previous owner had it sorted out very comprehensively, so many more happy smiles per hour! :yeah:

Big thanks to Dan for clocking it, and another whole-hearted recommendation for Nick (13Black) who went to carry out a comp test on my behalf on Thursday evening.

Cheers guys!

Cheers Ian. :D

First, whether to keep any bits from the old Grey. Spacers and toyo are first to consider, I think I may hold out for a nicer back box though.
Second, there are some small areas of paintwork issues, not sure what will be required yet.

Front end has some bits that I may fettle, mostly due to the front lower dam not being replaced because it would have cost somewhere in the region of £600!
The little chrome strake type things above the oil coolers, or lack of them, and what to do in their place. Currently some carbon type stuff, so may change that for something else.

Not sure I like the mirrors, they're massive!
I'm also going to see if the Recaros grow on me a little more, excellent though they are.

That's all I have so far, it's only been a day! I love cruise control though, that is most fun.

Sounds great John, all good stuff ;) On the exhaust Defo wait, personally I love the Milltek ( as I would ) but it looks awesome on the R3 with those lovely angled tips.Another thumbs up for the spacers and as for the mirrors you might be able to source the smaller ones from Pete.

The recaro's are great aren't they? Comfy as hell,as for the cruise control well I've never used it but I'll take your word for it :D You know what I haven't seen yet? A blue MZ Customs R3

Nice car John :thumleft:

Don't you like the Dumbo Ears

The Seats are OK if you got a small bottom like Ian ;) ,but if it's fuller looking then you may find the Seats very uncomfortable to sit on :( ,as there is no Lumber Support Adjustment :!: :!:

I used the Cruise Control a lot when I had my R3 John =D> ,as it worked in 4th,5th and 6th :P

Welcome to the R3 lot John! :thumright: I'm very jealous of that low mileage.

It took me about a month to get used to the Recaros, but now I love them and other seats seem to lack feel in comparison. Your arse will adapt

And they look so badass too.

Excellent. Everyone likes a rrading and grammar test. Well played sir, well played. Very nice indeed and welcome to the write off club  im only 99% through the repair of the civic which is for some reason a cat c. The insurance company got a bit to excited i feel to class it as that.

Thanks all.

You can never quite be sure when it comes to incident damage, until you've had a good look yourself, or someone who knows what they're doing has!
But yea, you get the impression they're always a bit extreme in their classifications..

The problem with "write-offs" is that it's just down to economics.

I was driving a 3-week old Jaguar X-Type 3.0 SE, with all the toys, when it was heavily rear-ended and pushed into the van in front.

Despite the massive damage, the book value of the car meant that it was still financially viable for the insurance company to repair.
Had it have been the based model 2.0, or a Mondeo, it would have been written off.

It took 3 months to get the car back on the road, via a multi-franchise body shop, but it was never right and, even though it was only a company car, I called the insurance engineer to check it over again. He insisted that the car would go back to Jaguar at Coventry when the lease expired ( just over a month later) to be double-checked before it went back into used car market.

Despite all the repairs that had been undertaken, Jaguar took the car off the road permanently and it was broken for spares.

OTOH I've known many low-value cars get written off for very minor damage, just because the parts required (plus the time to paint/fit) would be more than the book price.

The Category system is meant to reflect the actual amount of damage but, in practise, it's mainly just an indicator of the financial gap.

Yes if you have read my fn2 project page it gives an insight into what i have had to do, but why they write cars off theses days when its so easy to source parts. But sayin that they normally use genuine new parts from main stealers which doesnt take much to run up big bills, so far ive spent £350 on parts which was 2nd hand door, bumper and wing with consumables aswell such as the trim clips, filler etc. Then it needs about £300 of paint so all in should be under £700 but im pretty sure i read an estimated repair cost from insurance was £5k.

Is it the angle of the photo or does it have a different splitter on the front bumper? I see what you mean about the wing mirrors.

No, as mentioned above it's not standard, and was actually made up using an old S1 dam/splitter. Hence why I'll take a closer look and decide what to do with it. I'll get a better pic of that, as it will be good to get some 2nd opinions.

Just had a gander at your project thread, standards are pretty high everywhere in this Club!
I noticed your mirrors look like standard S1s?? :-k Is that right?
