Re: Dan's Mazdaspeed project (2nd attempt)
And to finish off the Xmas shopping a greedy sump !
Also got my hand's on a mazda compression tester a while back and need to find the time to repeat the compression test and see where it's at !
Also anyone toying with the idea of an axial flow shifter......do it! Feels great and sounds a little like a straight cut gearbox, although i think I just made the holes in the boot bigger lol

Re: Dan's Mazdaspeed project (2nd attempt)
All build parts ordered !
- New fuel pump and r3 waterpump ordered from racingbeat
- found a pulley set for sale on Facebook and that should be here next week
- refurbished engine mounts ordered from Nick at 13B
.....unless anyone can think of anything I've missed I think that's the rebuild parts list complete ?!?!
Next big question is how far do I want to go with porting......Bridge/half bridge ? boost is out of the question for now as I fear for my life if my mrs found out

Re: Dan's Mazdaspeed project (2nd attempt)
More caliper issues today and yesterday has prompted the purchase of the new brakes.
Went for D2 356mm 6pot in yellow. I saw the size of the disk and caliper on display at trax and they are huge!
Should be here in the new year and swapping to some 2nd hand calipers until then and i think the pistons is made of rust. While I was investigating them last night I also noticed a nice big screw in my tyre so that will be getting repaired tomorrow
After a lot of thinking I've decided to take the nexus out and put some gauges in it's place

Does that mean a nexus install could be up for sale eventually?

It's a lovely looking car. I had a quick nose at it on Sunday, but will have to have a proper look round at another meeting.

And I've been waiting 4 years to get the car to where it is now and get this build spec so a lot of saving and planning has gone into it. Look's like I'm mad but I've actually thought this through for a very long time

Re: Dan's Mazdaspeed project (2nd attempt)
Ordered some PZ mirrors off ebay and will be fitting and painting them up in the new year
I also think I'll be booking her in for a rebuild when rotary revs is back open in the new year......compression has dropped mid low 5s and had a dodgey start up and idle the other day. Sounded a little like it had been bridge ported overnight......oh dear

Not much arrived over Xmas as imagined, still waiting on the BBK but I now have the pulleys and the pz mirrors. Hope to have them sprayed up and on the car by the end of the day

If you want a shave a few more ounces off the rotating mass then you could opt for titanium bolts, what I have done and fairly cheap too.

Re: Dan's Mazdaspeed project (2nd attempt)
Dan, did you go for floating discs with the BBK or the normal two-piece?
I have a similar kit to yours and i'm worried about deflection causing issues as the calipers aren't 'floating' (like the stock items), when are you planning on fitting yours? i hope we wont have to go back and get full floating discs to avoid piston push-back!

Re: Dan's Mazdaspeed project (2nd attempt)
I've gone for non floating because noone I've spoken to about it recommend going for the floating kits. I went for the larger disk size as the pads and disks are the same price to buy ( replacements ) as the 330 counterpart as they will dissapate heat better. Also they are bigger which looks better :xmascool:

Fitting pz mirrors has to be the most frustrating thing I've even done to a car........got them together this morning and I'll fit them later today.

Re: Dan's Mazdaspeed project (2nd attempt)
Spoke to Ben yesterday at revs, decided on the final build spec and porting oprions which are as followed:
Rotary revs gold rebuild
Full bridge port with lightweight rotors and full engine balancing
New oil pump and chain (genuine mazda)
Greddy oil pan
Mishimoto oil lines
Mishimoto radiator
Mishimoto shroud
Mishimoto thermostat
Mishimoto main rad silicone hoses (red)
Pettit racing c spec expansion tank
New waterpump (genuine mazda s1)
Underdrive light weight pulleys (red)
New aux belts
13B poly engine mounts
Pettit racing flywheel nut
Competition clutch ultra light flywheel + counterweight
Competition clutch clutch kit
HEL braided clutch line
Racing beat exhaust header
Racing beat drop in fuel pump
AEM intake ( red and already on the car )
Racing beat cat back ( already on the car )
585 ignition kit ( already on the car but I'll probably swap to a new 969 kit just cause )
I've also ordered some titanium bolts for anything that is gonna spin that's connected to the e shaft (that's safe to do so )
Car will be getting dropped off sometime next week with any luck ( still waiting on the clutch to arrive !!! )
Bring on 200 whp and some braps
Also the floor is open to anyone if they think I've missed anything or would recommend anything. SOHN adaptor i's also on the menu when I can get my hands on one.
