Re: Paul's RX-5
It's started. I removed the wires from the ecu plug for the crank sensor and pushed some copper wires in and manually wired the crank sensor.
it slowly bumbled to life and promptly cut out when I let off the throttle too early. Proper smoked out the garage
I now need a replacement engine loom

Re: Paul's RX-5
Fandabbydozy! Well done mate. Can yoj not just stay with the direct wired ESS as opposed to replacing the whole loom?

Re: Paul's RX-5
I feel your pain, I had very similar situation a few years back when I did my 1st engine rebuild , and it would only start on the 1 rotor except when you opened the throttle
turned out to be a broken wire to one of the injectors

Re: Paul's RX-5
Broken wires are the bain of these cars due to age and apparently RX7 looms can be really brittle.

That's the issue I was having and I'm thinking the same.
Hopefully the new loom sorts everything

Re: Paul's RX-5
That reminds me of an issue a while back that the owner was convinced was an intake valve solenoid, but was eventually tracked down to corrosion on an injector connector.

Re: Paul's RX-5
Happy to report that the car started first time with the new loom. Ran it up to temp and turned it off. No leaks.

Re: Paul's RX-5
Started the car again today and it's struggling to start without throttle. Is this normal?

Re: Paul's RX-5
I changed the oil and cleaned the spark plugs today.
Oil smelt strongly of petrol and the spark plugs looked very healthy.
Almost as though it's an injector issue with the cold start problem. Starts fine from warm!

Re: Paul's RX-5
your issues getting it started and prolonged crank times could easily explain the fuel in the oil, however if it continues now you have fixed that you should check the injectors, as that is the most likely reason for fuel in the oil.
