I 'm assuming that the sump must have been off before then
so a previous DIY attempt to seal it or fit an aftermarket part ?

Finally got round to fitting the replacement clutch master cylinder. Boy was the hard pipe union tight into the cylinder but the mounting nuts came undone easily even though they are a bit awkward to access.
The piston was stuck solid in the cylinder and could only be removed by screwing a bolt into it and clamping the head in a vice then pulling the cylinder off the piston with much grunting and huffing!
Fitting the replacement was straight forward as the pushrod lined up with the hole in the piston first time. the flexi fluid feed pipe went back on easily but I cannot for the hell of me get the hard pipe union to start in the thread! After a good 30 minutes of frustration I am having a break before round 2 starts!

Pipe nut started on the first attempt and by sucking fluid through using my vacuum tester kit I have a clutch pedal that feels normal, as the car has no front calipers and the front wheels are of I cannot run the engine to test the clutch unless I jack up the back end of course but that can be a tomorrow job as my back is aching again after stretching in to the bleed nipple.

Due to no calipers or front wheels the only clutch test I could do was to start the engine and depress the pedal which made the layshaft rattle stop so that’s good news that it disengages.

Having "borrowed" the front calipers to get RR54 back on the road whilst the 4 pots were sorted the plan for today is to fit the front braded lines and these refurbed zinc plated little beasties.
£165 which included new slide pins and refurbing the mounting brackets.They are going to look really out of place against the currently rusty and dusty discs etc!

I had a pair of calipers and carriers lying around, as one does, and they turn the jobs round within the week unless you want playing which can take up to 15 days but doesn’t cost any extra.
All being well I will have a spare set of calipers and carriers again by Sunday.
Yes I may need some bleeding assistance on Sunday with the 4 pots!

Just put a bolt through the banjo with copper washers each side and that will stop the fuel fluid leaking out.

Given the crusty and flaky nature of the subframes, chassis rails and suspension arms it was not without a degree of intrepidation that I removed the arch liners today and found....................................no rot at all just surface rust even inside at the bottom of the front wings and the front of the rear wheel arch. The rear sill seam has separated a bit but is still very sound. I applied a bit of Krown fluid by brush to see how it looked.
Plan now is to get the brakes finished, scrape off the scaling and flaking underseal and then pressure wash the arches and underside. Back into the garage to dry off totally for a few weeks after removing all the chassis box section bungs and then get the car up to Krown for Roberts thorough rustproofing treatment whilst the car is bone dry.

Despite the heat over the past few days I have managed to fit the 4 pots back onto RR54 and fit the Bigg Red refurbished calipers onto TN07. The rea calipers looked a bit sad so I whipped them off to check the pads, pistons and sliders which were all in good working order so I just gave the calipers and brackets a quick cost of silver to tidy them up for the short term.
The V5 request has been with the DVSA for over a week now and hopefully it will come back by September then I can get the car in for an MOT.

thats the entire corner of the sill and wheel arch that will need cutting out and replacing if you want to do it right, it will be rotten on the inside...
