So I cleaned all the grounds and the positive on the starter motor, no luck, swapped the starter for my old one fired right up although is only cranking at 190rpm so I think I'll be getting a gen 2/3 one.

Next problem it wont run cos its pissing petrol everywhere, so either on of the fuel lines aint on properly which is my guess, or the injectors arent sealing properly.

On the plus side for the 30 seconds it did run it sounded sweet lol. time to take all the top intake manifold off and see what I can see. Just wish it wasn't so damn wet and cold today my hands are numb :-( lol.

I'll report back, if anyone has a spare speedy starter going begging drop me a PM

So turns out the red fuel line on the intake was loose all connected and started up first time. Is sat on the driveway idling on axle stands now.

Sounds weird but then ive never heard a rotary in person before. Sounds almost tappetty

Stalled when I tried to go into first but think that’s just it not smoothed out yet and me giving it no gas while lifting the clutch. But started up ok and it was fully warm so that reassuring. Little slow to start when warm but I’m gonna put that down to crap starter motor and new seals old housings.

Coolant all topped up will check engine oil in a bit. But fingers crossed I need to go and get more petrol and will put some premix in then to help out. Not leaking any fluids that I can see under the car.

Exhaust sounds weird but I only have 2 of 3 bolts onto the car as all others I have at the mo are too rusty or buggered. And turns out previous owner had decatted it so I’m hoping I can get through mot

Anything else I need to know? Need to take it easy for the first 1000 miles ish and always let it warm up. Oil change at 1000 miles

Yeah super pleased had it out on the drive idling for a while let it warm up fully and it stopped steaming which is great, found out it was stalling cos I had the handbrake on haha yup literally forgot how to drive in my excitement.

So it does change gear, I think things were all just a bit locked in place as the handbrake has been on for months. it engages and span the wheels so I'll take that as enough for today.

I managed to lose my bolts for the cross frame brace, god knows how I do it take them off one day and put them aside somewhere safe and then cannot find them the next day, its not that they are small bolts either 4 17mm and 2 19mm heads.

I need to get some petrol tomorrow and then I'll get it warmed up and do a compression test

Then bolt all the bits back on, lights, mudflaps and bumper etc

This brings back memories of working on a friends Lotus Cortina.

He had it up on axle stands, while we fitted a new rear exhaust box and front brakes.
The exhaust was finished first, so he jumped into the car and started the engine, while I checked for leaks.

He thought it would be funny to put the car in gear and spin the wheels to give me a

I came out from under, just in time for the inertia of him blipping the engine with the wheels spinning to rock the car off the stands, then jump forward and nose into a wall, with no wheels on the front.

The trolley jack had been moved under the engine, to keep it out of the way while we worked on the brakes, and this put a big dent in the sump as the front of the car fell.

Needless to say, neither I or his Mrs was impressed and it took us another couple of weekends to sort all the damage.

Yeah its on all four axle stands but I'm not revving the engine for that exact reason lol.

So a couple more pics as someone asked to the headlights once wired up.

Hard to see I think but they don’t seem to effect the pattern at all my high beams are all over the place so I’ve got the bulbs in wrong somehow lol

I got some lovely petrol for it today so will run it up tomorrow and test the engine.

Also found some bolts for the cross member I’d “lost”. Don’t know why I thought to look there but I’d put them in my bucket of degreaser lol, so that can go back on tomorrow and other than under tray and mudflaps that’s the last crawling around jobs hopefully.

Headlights look cool. Do they just blink when they indicate or chase along the strip?

Awesome. I'm about to get MS front bumper this week and was thinking about having the strip the same as you in the headlight and/or having the same "shape" of strip in the oil cooler openings of the bumper......

Anyone else had problems with cross member fitting with stainless exhaust? I’m gonna have to notch it, it seems :-(

Some long tube manifolds that only work with a matching cat/decat have been known to need a bit more clearance.

However, Racing Beat, ToyoSports and other stainless manifolds that work with the OEM cat should fit within the original space, unless there's something strange going on with the engine mounts.

Re: Trying to make Lemonade from a Lemon - Deathga's build

So I finally got round to get the engine nice and hot and doing a compression test, I think I'm disappointed but at the same time I'm pretty sure during the break-in milage compression should increase a bit (I hope) so the car starts lovely so I'm not massively bothered at the moment and this is with it having done 0 miles, its just sat on axle stands idling for a total of about an hour.

Compression test results 12/02/2019

Rotor 1

77 74 80 rpm 202
80 80 83 rpm 212
85 83 81 rpm 217

Rotor 2

78 78 79 rpm 219
77 77 79 rpm 216
79 79 78 rpm 219

Averages

Rotor 1

81 79 81 rpm 210

Rotor 2

78 78 79 rpm 218

These results are from the Leading spark plug hole with the ESS and Fuel Pump Fuse removed/unplugged using the group by tester. Turned it off between each test seems to like it more.

I'm very happy with the consistency, as it should make for a reasonably smooth engines, I found a website with a calc/converting on it, I'm not sure what I convert to Bar or Kg/cm2 but both seem to be around mid 6's.

Any thoughts or is it just a case of drive it and take another reading at 500 miles or something like? I mean I'm happy to do reading's every 200 miles or whatever if people are interested. (I will probably do this anyway cos I have the tester might as well get my monies worth lol)

Oh and I know my starter is a bit on the slower side I'm going to be getting a newer style one, probably the one someone linked earlier in the thread.

As an aside, thanks again to everyone for your help finding parts and advice, really not sure I would have got this far without you lot.

I similarly tested mine the day after build (~200 miles) and a few times afterwards during run in, and have done a couple of times til the 8k it's on now... and mine has hovered around 6.8 - 7.1 kg/cm2. If anything it never went up during run in and has only gradually come down.

Whether this is normal I don't know, but I wouldn't worry about the numbers until its actually run in.

Well we'll burn that bridge when we get to it :D

If it stays where it is then it's not the end of the world, as long as it doesn't drop a bar after 2,000 miles.

Car went in for an MOT and failed on emissions and leaking front shock absorber. Also had the clutch master cylinder destroy its seal while on the ramp so they couldn't get it into gear and I had to get it towed home :-(

Got all the parts I need on order coming Wednesday so hopefully get them all on and then back in for another MOT asap :-( haha all good fun right?
