I don't usually comment on cosmetic stuff, but I'm really liking those rear lights.... :thumleft:

Yes I agree such a fine piece of engineering brilliance should be clean and polished like it deserves to be.

Top stuff Dan, and those rear lights are a bit special. 8)

You can't really get away with describing it as an abomination anymore, maybe SauceMonster?

You make a good point John... Perhaps I should think on another term...

Although I'm almost sad that Dr. FrankenRex is making something slightly pretty...!

Mind you, if Dr. Frankenstein had gone through as many iterations of his monster as I have RX8s you'd expect it to look somewhat decent by now!

Cheeky update on the engine build!

I managed to acquire (on the advice of Josh @ RR) a racing beat manifold - Thanks Adam Galtress!

Engine wise it was stripped down a while back and the internals were in surprisingly good condition given the side seal failure. The housings are being resurfaced as the rest of it will be near enough as new (but better ;) ) so thought it worth the additional spend.

Josh has worked his magic with the bridge porting (pictures below) and has also done the work on the Race Extension porting which, I have to say looks amazing! (I can't share pics of this sadly!)

The rotating assembly is being lightened and balanced as we speak and the whole shabang has the potential to hit ~260-270bhp at the fly (or ~230 at the wheels).

Whether you cut it as a 1.3 or a 2.6 that's mighty impressive figures for an NA engine! :D

More updates as they go, depending on whether I can reveal them!

230bhp at the wheels is a bold claim. It would be amazing if you reach that. I really hope you do. Best of luck. :thumleft:

But if it does its all down to the Ryan Rotary Performance lightweight pulleys!!

Looks like this will be a cracker of an engine. I was chatting to Josh about porting a while ago, if the race extension is what I think it is, it's going to be rather special.

Re: Dr. FrankenRex's Monster! The VR R3 Grimme ælling - Update 13th Sept :D

Post by Dr. FrankenRex » Thu Sep 13, 2018 1:30 pm

It is a bold claim, but I'm assured a reasonable one given the work the engine is having done :D

Time will tell, of course. As far as I've been told the only version that's been run in is Josh's developmental build in his own car which is running the same Race Extension. That hasn't been mapped, is running used seals, rough-as housings, no lightening/balancing etc. etc. and is hitting ~195-200whp...

So, on an R3, fully mapped, lightened/ balanced everything, goopy seals and resurfaced housings...

Regardless of whether it makes that much, or falls short, it should still be one hell of a build!

Prblim?

I have only blown up 87% of UKs RX8 engines, and most of those probably deserved it. The only one that I didn't manage to kill was the last engine I had built by Rotary Revs, so... Back to what I know, yo.

Josh up at RR said that they have had some problems with some bits being damaged by mr postie when going off to be lightened and balanced, so he has created what is possibly the BEST packaging ever:
