Well, Frank2 is now up and running again after some electrical tomfoolery involving me connecting the battery the wrong way around when jumping. Oh how we laughed...

Anywhoo, with that long behind me... I am getting the car fully valeted this weekend in preparation for the Silverstone track day, but it means that I have some time and some plastidip... As such I have a few decal options Image

Ignore the wheel colour in one of them, my wheels are bronze and that isn't going to change.

Option 1:
Decal Option 1.jpeg
Option 2:
Decal Option 2.jpeg
Option 3:

I think option 2 but just my opinion seems to flow with the shape of the car more ! Image

I'm torn between 2 and 3 I think. The main motivator is a dent in the side of the rear door, just below the crease of the bodywork, so I need to cover that ideally!

I was inspired by the Mazda 3 Clubsport SEMA concept, as well as the LM20 RX8 R3 sold in the US...

LM20:

Current: FrankenRex 2, leaner and meaner. '60 plate, eibach lowering spings, Maserati 6 pots, braided brake lines

No more: '58 Blue R3, '04 White/ Black 192, '09 Diamond Grey R3, '09 Velocity Red R3

I like 3.
I like the directions the lines flow. and the space it take up on the car.
Remember everyone will have different likes for decal designs. you know what you can achieve and what you ultimately like best for your car so always go with your first instinct. :)
If it was me I'd use 3rd design but I would change the lines slightly to incorporate the Mazda 3 inspiration picture a Little more, as that's really nice. . .

I was going to say 2 or 3, with a slight lean to 2 as it doesn't run onto the arch flares so you won't get the visual distortion depending on the viewing angle. (Although I was going to suggest adding a third stripe on the door to highlight the R3-ness of it...) Anything will make it look different to mine at Silverstone though!!

I was wondering why I seem to be the only vote for number 1. Then I realised it reminded me of the Yamaha yellow and white block pattern from their classic 70s racers:

I just saw option 2 as massive sideburns and now can't unsee it.

More curves, less blocks. If you get the design right, the car should look like it's doing 100 while standing still. In my opinion :)
To Do List: HKS CAMP2 install; cruise control; new exhaust; detail paintwork, possible respray

Done: Hayward Rotary rebuild and stage 2 port; Racing Beat ARBs, adjustable front droplinks, ram air intake and lightened flywheel; Exedy stage 1 clutch; Eibach Pro-Kit lowering springs; Koyo radiator; heated front screen; EBC redstuff pads all round

Curves are much harder to do as it's all done with masking. Not impossible obviously, but will have to see what I can do. They are blocks to make it easier :thumleft:

depends how much you want to spend but J-tape curves around corners, awesome stuff use it all the time :thumleft: then you just block mask the rest with normal masking tape :)

After a few chats on here and on the book of face, I've tried reversing the angle of the stripes on option 3, which I kinda like.

There'd be more stripes and the heights/ widths would be more like Option 3, but just playing with the angles on this one really:

Not really a fan of sticker’d road cars, but I have to say the pic of the Red LM20 actually looks really cool and would 100% get my vote!

Only problem with running the stripes to the bottom is they'll look dirty and off colour very quickly, especially the white ones. Might be worth stopping at the doors and not going right to the bottom.

They will be silver, not white, but I get what you're saying. That's a good point.

See, I originally wanted this to cover a dent (which is higher up than the LM20 decals) but now I'm just tempted to do a version of that... Lol

Well, the dippage didn't work as it was too cold, so off I went to Silverstone anyway!

It was a great day, with some changeable but mostly good weather. That was where the fun ended.

Side seal went pop at 4pm...

Sooo.... Whilst I'm saving (and moving house, oxymoron or WHAT?) for the inevitably rebuild and bridgeporting up at RR, it's discussion time for what else I get done at the time...

The build spec I'm aiming for currently is:
  • Gold rebuild
  • Full bridgeport
  • Lightened doritos
  • Full remapping session after run-in period
It needs a new master and slave clutch cylinder, but the shortlist of other bits:
  • Revi Ram air intake
  • Racingbeat front and rear ARBs
  • Stainless header (I know it's not 'beneficial' but I want it as it's shiny and loud!)
Any other reasonable suggestions?
