Annual Meet 2025 - 20th-21st Sept - Snowdonia and Colwyn Bay

Post by willberry70 »

Annual Meet '25 - 20th-21st September

Following on from the polling of the membership this year's Annual Meet will be an extension of the already planned Snowdonia drive, hotel meal and optional Anglesey track day!
This year's AM is a one day Snowdonia drive, following the similar route to past weekends, but only pre-ordering the hotel room's and main meal.

This time an end of season run, 20th-21st. To also integrate with the Javelin Anglesey Trackday on 22nd

This will not be the full 2 day drive, instead it will be the AM on day 1 (Sat) at the hotel, check in from 3pm, for 6pm pre-drinks in the Dory Lounge. (Hotel Check-in from 3pmif you wish to use spa facilities or relax prior). We will then be seated for approx 7pm for a 730pm 3 course meal, with drinks, awards and raffle throughout and after. Day 2 (Sun) will be a leisurely start to ensure everyone has had there full breakfast and recovered from Sat night, meeting at 10am by our private car park area for a 1030pm latest depart, comprising of an extended drive through the mountains and down to Rhug estate, stopping for lunch en route which whill either be BYO or avail at the stop (Tesco/Lidl is 1 mile from hotel for Fuel and food the day before). At Rhug estate we can say farewell to those whoe wish to depart Wales via the A5 southbound (Chirk/Oswestry) and the rest can travel back upto the North Welsh coast where our hotel will be from night 1.

Here is the route:
Screenshot_20250619_153459_Maps.jpg
Starting (Hopefully pending price) at the Quay Hotel and Spa Sunday morning after many drinks, socialising and good food the Sat day and night
Screenshot_20250619_153700_Google.jpg
From here we will leave through Conwy Castle itself, exiting via the Walla and a first rate view as we approach the road via the original drawbridge from the hotel (Which overlooks the castle, the image below is looking at the hotel)
Screenshot_20250619_153633_Google.jpg
Next we move down past the Caer Rhun hall towards surf snowdonia via the twisty roads of Gwydr Forest
Screenshot_20250619_153554_Google.jpg
From Surf Snowdonia we will pass through Trefriw. Favoured every year for the NSX AM that come religiously to the same hotel for these roads and on into Betws across the famous bridge
Screenshot_20250619_153915_Google.jpg
On leaving Betws we will head towards capel cerrig through the mountains and forests, and lakes on this road through the ogwen valley to Bethesda
Screenshot_20250619_154011_Google.jpg
Coming out of Bethesda we will head towards Llanberis, Beddgelert and the Pen Y Pass
Screenshot_20250619_154133_Google.jpg
This will push us out by Blaenau Ffestiniog and the slate mountains
Screenshot_20250619_154238_Google.jpg
Before continuing towards the Top Gear test area and Capel Celyn lakes
Screenshot_20250619_154333_Google.jpg
And on the Rhug estate farm shop and cafe where we will let those departing south bound leave us on the A5
Screenshot_20250619_154351_Google.jpg
The rest of us wanting the A55 north or East, or hotel again or Anglesey track, will return via A5 towards Llanrwst
Screenshot_20250619_155519_Chrome.jpg
Using Paddog bends and Swallow falls on the way
Screenshot_20250619_155450_Chrome.jpg
This also has the evo triangle we can quickly divert for 10 min if people wish on the way back.....

And thus will be the tour, approx 146 miles and about 3-4hrs though I wish us to stop and sight see some intresting places aswell as the driving roads and views plus a lunch break. I would think a 1030am start and back at the hotel by 4pm or onwards home by 3pm at Rhug or 4pm on A55

Partner and Family welcome, please let me know if you are so I can add +1 etc above and know if you need sgl, dbl or Family room.

Sadly, this is near 600 mile, 10+ hour (without stops) round trip, which would probably mean a 4 day outing, not including the trackday, so I'll have to pass on this one :(

9 cars plus partners so far, based on the Snowdonia attendance but obviously this has only just been posted as the Annual Meet.

Probably too spendy for me. Might do the drive, though, and just head back after. Put me down as a maybe.

This is too expensive for me as well so I won’t be attending
This would cost me in the region of £1,000 plus easily
I will do Yakushi instead to support the club

Please can people refrain from unjustified and unquantifiable spending amounts or placing negative comments in an attempt to put off members attending, because they do not wish to attend this event. The EC is following the will of the majority, a vote was cast and concluded. The EC will now be working to deliver in whatever qty is required for people, and gain the best value and options avail to all. This is no different to a usual AM with an event in the day ranging from 50-100 and then a hotel stay at the same rough price as this will be. The only difference is it's slightly further for some that have had ready access to an abundance of AMs in the south.

No-one can reasonably associate a price or spend currently, when we have not yet even had costings through in full or selected the hotel (Though the usual is in mind, if too much it will be changed). Nor have we realeased club subsidies or inclusions. We will be attempting to reduce costs for all, as much as reasonably practical. The Hotel we want to use is the nicest in the area and they offer us a considerable discount, bearing in mind this is used by international sports teams, Celebs, Hollywood film crews and politicians yet we usually pay not much more than a Premier Inn. Also, again as no further details have been released, there is no notification that you do not need to stay in this hotel if you do not wish, as llandudno and Deganwy is one of the largest current trending holiday destinations In the UK, there is 100s of various budget accom within a 5 min drive. I have seen B+B for £50 should you wish to stay moments away and attend for the meal which will be covered by the club as usual for free.

I regularly do in excess of 700 mile round trips to support our events and so do others, including JDM Combe, Beaulieu and Goodwood. Silverstone is slightly closer and to attend the oxford meet once a month is a 450 mile round trip. However, we cannot always do everything in the south of England and expect other members to always do this multiple times a year while not thinking of them. Though they will have to likely travel for this aswell.

As mentioned before Goodwood was indeed a 12 hr drive for myself and 700 miles. At current fuel costs this was £160 roughly. I cannot make promises on prices but I am hoping for around the 200 mark before club subsidy for a hotel that is leagues above what we would usually use and cost about 80% of that anyway. If you do about 1k miles round trip, it will be about 200 in fuel. The meal as always will be covered by the club. Drinks and lunch will be at your own cost and preference. If you wish to stay more than the 1 night, we can enquire about rates at the same hotel at a discount or others. I know for the Anglesey trackday, usually people move nearer the track into a Prem inn down the road from Anglesey as we have run this format in the past which had about 25 members attend. And that was In no way discounted or an AM.

So for the AM side, and a one off event, if those of you are intrested in having a very nice weekend away and potentially a spa day at a discount on Saturday, a nice meal and stay with drinks and then a drive through the mountains in a line of RX8s for a pretty unique experience. Then please come along and express your interest. If you are not interested in this, then please do not attempt to disway others.

I do not want in bickering or negatives, this has never been done to stop previous AMs and skew attendance, this is the AM for the year and will have the usual Raffle and good times whatever the numbers. Another Vote will be held after it for what people want next year.

I hope to see you all there, or as many as can make it.

Do you guys have a map of the route? How long will the drive last? Just figuring out whether I do the track day as well, as it's quite a long distance for me to travel, but might be worth it with the track day as well.

Absolutely.....here is the route I envision, minus a few tweaks and some handy snippets of pictures:

If you feel like splashing out the venue is beautiful in terms of accommodation, or failing that B&B's most cut the cost whilst maximising the fun :D

Put me down and a tentative + 1. I’ll probably compromise and not do the track day, might be a bit different if their was a car show like castle Combe, but not sure what Abi do whilst I’m on track.

The track day isn't actually part of the AM. The social on the Sat night is the AM. Then the drive the next day on Sunday. We have just timed it next to the Angelsey Track day which is by Javelin as it works well for the club end of season and if people are driving to a remote track may aswell make it a good weekend. However, I would recommend angelsey if you have not done it before, I am not going myself as working but it's a great track out. That's why it's so popular even though it is a pain on arse to get to on the extreme west coast. If you wanted to stay a 2nd night in the Quay, could get you favourable rate and Spa day package for Abi so can have a luxury pamper day while your on track. Mrs will be working and runs the Spa/leisure area, and they will meet on sat and Sunday.

That's a shame your missing a great weekend, I'm sure we will catch up on the next one. Though I think we are overdue heading to Scotland or the Northeast, maybe next years we can pop that in the club vote, which maybe even further? Last years was by Southampton, so pretty far down the country. Would be good to head North central next and then east after that I feel personally. With Eva, Harry, Dary, Neil and Silviu all that way, im sure they would have some great Yorkshire runs or tracks or shows they know of to assist. I would really like to do the NC500 as a club outting aswell, perhaps we need to start planning that one well in advance for such a drive. That would be a great club trip. I think Mr Holmes may have lead the last or done a club one. I will have a chat with him.

Also, seems to be some confusion by a few posts about Anglesey while youve reminded me, Ill just clear that up for all. The Anglesey element is not part of club AM. The timing just fell well, while we are up for the AM the following day ti's a Javelin track day for those intrested. Win win for everyone. If anyone does wish to go track, you need to book with Javelin I believe. Alan the Condor of Might is going and likely has details if people need a hand.

Anglesey might as well be considered part of the AM weekend, even if it is just an optional extra. Alternatively people may choose to do the track day only if that's their bag.

For me adding it on makes the (5 hours in my case) journey more than worthwhile, as Anglesey is a pretty spectacular track that I wouldn't normally get the opportunity to do most years

I will set up a dedicated track day thread for it when I get a chance

Is there a discounted code for Anglesey track day, or we just book it ourselves?

There's the club 5% off code to use, but yes it's book yourself on the Javelin website:

Neil and I can probably make this. It will just be the Saturday night. It's way more driving than I've done in years, especially in a manual.

List updated. Potentially 17 RX8 so far and likely push 30 people for food.
