Classic Japfest Goodwood - 4 & 5th October

Post by ebarratt »

Classic Japfest is back at the Goodwood Circuit (Chichester, West Sussex, PO180PX) again, this time over two days, and with a lot more on!

The event runs across Saturday 4th and Sunday 5th October, with the Saturday having track events and drift demos, and the Sunday seeming to be like the one-day event last year, mainly being just a display of cars.
Unlike last year, you have the opportunity to race the Goodwood track, at £175 for an AM or PM session, or £340 all-day. This only runs on the Saturday, and more details can be found here: https://www.fastcar.co.uk/classic-japfest/track-time/

We're looking to have a club stand, but need to gauge interest, and see what days would suit everyone. The Saturday is a £30 club ticket, and Sunday is £20. A full weekend ticket is £35.

IMPORTANT TO NOTE: Despite contacting the event organisers, we cannot guarantee that R3 and special edition owners will be allowed to display. The rules state that cars that begun production before 2005 are permitted to attend, which means that later versions of the RX-8 fall into a grey area. However, considering the cars that were still on show last year, and the lack of communication from the organisers, it is highly unlikely that later models will be turned down from displaying, especially if we're in convoy with some S1's.

I have attached a poll to this topic to understand who may be interested. I will update this post in due course regarding the preferred day to attend, and who's confirmed to be going.
Either way, it looks like a great day out with some good improvements for the Saturday!

We will provide a club link with enough interest, so hold off from booking anything yet. Here's a link to the main page, to see what's on: https://www.fastcar.co.uk/classic-japfest/

I would be interested. At 5 quid extra than Sat, I will likely say both days or at least buy a ticket for both and then see what hotel costs are like nearer the time to see if 2 days I viable. Due to this I will vote just the sat, as would be there for that definitely and then hopefully Sunday too

I was the first member to represent the RX8OC last year. What RX8s would be excepted was always a grey area, 2004 seemed to be the cut off line? As it was there were quite a few cars on display several years younger! As it was only me, I was invited to display my RX8 on the RX7FB Club stand, of whom Ian M is a member.

Once again, like Silverstone always is, there was no where to erect the club gazebo, with the stand being on tarmac car parking areas. Not only does it give you a place to congregate to sit and chat, but it would have saved joining long queues for a coffee and a burger, thanks to the complimentary food and drink usually supplied by the RX8OC.

I hadn't planned to go again this year, I'll wait to see how much interest is generated.

Attached photos from last years event.

The RX7FB OC would definitely be another option, we’re really just seeing how many people would be willing to go at the moment to see if a club stand is indeed worth it.

Although I didn’t display last year I did visit, and I do agree that unfortunately there doesn’t seem to be much room for gazebos and such. I was hoping that as they were changing how it works this year that they may include space for this, but if anything there’s going to be less space as they’ll shove us all on grass pitches rather than the track.

I sort of see these events as going to enjoy what’s on during the day with the benefit of being able to display your own car, so if they have track events and drift demos then it’s more inticing for me as I can wonder about for the whole day and not get bored.

As said in the post, we don’t truly know what their cutoff is and despite us emailing them, if anything they made it even more vague and never gave a clear answer. I do doubt that after paying for a space on a club stand that they would turn us down, but you do never know.
