Re: !!EXCITING WEEKEND, 20-21 July!! JDM Combe - Annual Meet - Beaulieu
It wasn't until Sunday afternoon that the sun
finally showed it's face, by that time most had headed for home. I did try to to pack the car with sunshine before I left Suffolk on Friday, sadly it doesn't travel well!
Great to see some younger faces taking up the mantle and keeping the future of the 8 alive!
Excellent array of photos from Neil, who successfully captured the mood of the day at Castle Combe.
I hope all will join me in saying a big thank you to Ian and those that helped, from setting up... to the bacon rolls... to packing away and then last to leave... come on guys, let's see your thumbs up

Re: !!EXCITING WEEKEND, 20-21 July!! JDM Combe - Annual Meet - Beaulieu
Gwyn and I had a very enjoyable time at Combe and at the Annual Dinner. Thanks are due to many people, and apologies to anyone I have missed, but these spring to mind:
Will and the Events Team, especially Ian and Jackie, who transported 2 gazebos and masses of club equipment to both events, plus leading the setup and breakdown of the stands. All this, while having the delightful Felix to look after.
Neil Carter, for the fabulous photos, capturing the mood and creating a memorable record of Combe and the Dinner.
To Ollie and Derek (and Debbie) for responding to my last minute plea to purchase and bring along the legendary bacon and roll supplies to both events.
To our loyal suppliers, too many to list (see first post), who provided such an incredible selection of raffle supplies.
The Committee, for the planning and many decisions needed to make the weekend happen.
And lastly, to all the club members who took part and made the weekend so enjoyable, despite the best efforts of the fickle English Summer weather!

Sorry but I have another photo to add to the album:
Really hoping I haven’t given it to anyone.
That’s the joys of commuting into London, I need to give that up.

Re: !!EXCITING WEEKEND, 20-21 July!! JDM Combe - Annual Meet - Beaulieu
Better late than never
I’d like to thank everyone for a very pleasant weekend
The timings were a bit frantic at times and I never planed to do Beaulieu as I considered that a bridge too far for us.
Turning up when asked to and doing everything required to be ready for Mercedes first ever track session left us little time for socialising but we grabbed one bacon buttie.
Mercedes loved her track time and it’s always a thrill sending someone into a corner at 110 wondering if their going to brake and turn when you ask them to I may do a post on ( how to make a racing driver in 10 minutes )
We did a video but can’t play it because of the screaming ( from me )
We left early to enjoy the hotel facilities which were marvellous ( great pool etc ) ( Harry we haven’t forgotten steam room and ice )
The meal being an hour late with gin consumed wasn’t good. The air con unit dripping into our drinks and food was even worse
We didn’t win the roll bars ( I’ll have to continue grabbing the roof )
We did win a lovely print and an amazing little ratchet spanner
And we are officially the grubbiest car in the club ( I won’t bother with the car wash next time and get Mercedes to bump start it off the stand ) great trophy and the Doritos were nice
Really glad we didn’t do anything Sunday, only just managed breakfast
Thanks again to everyone in the club
Pete

Re: !!EXCITING WEEKEND, 20-21 July!! JDM Combe - Annual Meet - Beaulieu
Thanks for the feedback on the food Pete. Yes they were late bringing it out, though we were also 25 min late (due to waiting on people to arrive and the staff were calling rooms to check with guests) for the start of service. This possibly aided in throwing off food times, which I have discussed with them, though your the first to mention the quality of the food. I actually thought it was very good when it came, as did everyone else that has spoken to me or passed comment on it. Though doritoes were consumed, i didnt hesr of any McDonald's runs this year.
I am in the process of discussions with the hotel, so I will include your feedback. The air con is disappointing to hear, during setting up it did not seem to be doing it or we would have mentioned it as I was by that area for 1.5hrs using that table for set up with Josh and the Hotel staff. Other CMs also came and went in that time and area aswell.
You were indeed successful in the "rustiest car", winning the lightly salted award and Doritios, with your impressive corroded internals of the exhaust winning the judges over. Cleanliness was not judged. Dan did an amazing job of thinking of the theme and design/completion of the awards and doritoe sourcing.
The membership was asked to arrive from 30 min after the gates opened to allow the Events team time to set up the gazebos/flags and prep the area, which was 2.5hrs before the track session, and to allow me to be in place to park a static display and the track cars in a seperate area for the ability to get in and out at track and noise test times. Which is how it was organised.
Thanks for the feedback, and apologies your expectations were not met for the weekend. If anyone else has feedback like the above, please post or PM me, so I can include in my report with the Hotel manager for faults/disappointments. Unfortunately there is not much we can do with asking members for some time to set up the stand, perhaps the Event team can look at an afternoon session instead of morning for exclusive ones to allow more social and food timings. Or if people wish to turn up early they can assist as I requested In aiding the Events Team with prep, which I was happy to see on my arrival that was happening.

As I read Pete's post, he wasn't complaining about the quality of the food, merely that the food was being dripped on from the a/c. Maybe Pete can confirm?
Gwyn and thought the food was good, just very delayed.

I read Pete's comments as all fairly positive TBF - save the AC dripping in to his food and drink. The food being late seems to be more of an issue that he had consumed a large amount of gin before eating more than anything lol.

I blame Mercedes for the gin... Poor Pete was just minding his own business waiting for some food.

Re: !!EXCITING WEEKEND, 20-21 July!! JDM Combe - Annual Meet - Beaulieu
Perhaps my interpretation of his wording, my assumption the food was poor being based on the part "and food even worse", which has been pointed out thay Pete may, as you have read, be meaning the AC into food was worse, not the actual quality.

I've seen Merecedes track footage - it's not the language and screaming you don't want anyone to hear Pete, it's your over use of the word brake (I didn't know that was in your vocabulary ) seriously she did a great job

Christine is the only person privileged enough to see it ( it's a girl thing )
I may have threatened to spank her if she didn't do as she was told which I believe is considered to be not PC these days ( I'm old shcool )
She did spank the car though
It's a family forum and we may get banned if we play it
I'll ask her if there's any PG clips available

Just spotted this video of the show, filmed by an FD owner. Some nice coverage of the RX-8 OC stand from 25m 33sec.
