Obviously you can go in any car, you just can’t be “on display” in a non pre circa 2004 car

R3 is just an rx8 with bits bolted on. Structurally it's the same car. As are the other editions.
But by that logic you could say an RX-8 is just an MX-5 NC with different subframes, body and engine. I guess they will have to draw the line somewhere.
Not really, j must disagree. The shell of an R3 and the other models is an RX8. If I was to take the lights, bumpers/aero, wheels off the R3 then it looks just like a standard RX8. Yes you could say the suspension different etc, but if I unbolted those parts it's just an RX8 and 99% of people would say that's an RX8 shell if shown it. They wouldn't go it's an MX5. I would assume that 95% of the parts of you broke it up to every nut and bolt used would be the same as what rolled off the factory in 2004 cars.

As long as your model of car production was commenced in 2004 or before then you can display it. Malcom’s post above is quite clear.
The RX8 model car started with the S1 and finished with the R3 every special edition in between still qualifies as an RX8.
I am sure that Will as the originator of this topic and interim EC will clarify everything soon.

I appreciate that these posts are a bit of fun but rather than make jokes why doesn’t one of you actually make contact with the organisers and seek clarification that post 2004 RX8s are eligible to display as the models manufacture meets the requirement of commencing manufacture in 2004 or earlier.
It seems clear to me from Malcolm’s post above that all RX8s are eligible but other people are clearly not certain hence my previous post and thus one suggesting someone seeks clarification.
Apologies if I keep repeating myself.

If you read back Chris, one of my first posts was asking for the Events Team to clarify after Malcolms post, which I also interpret as all RX8 models, so we can book a Club stand. Which then started the disagreements with my interpretation and the odd fun post as you have quoted. Though I would turn and buy given malcolms statement, via mine/yours/his interpretation, I would not like to advise others to buy tickets to turn up and be turned away without this clarification on models of a production car.

Well on the plus side they got back to me fast, and knew their stuff.
Much to my surprise, officially they wouldn't allow the Series 2/R3's to display!

Now, if you turned up in an R3 with a ticket, whether they'd know or care is a separate issue, but it'd be at your own risk!

Any update on this? As it seems to rule out R3's (but all other S1 models/variations are OK?), are we still planning to have a stand?

Well they won't let R3's in, but obviously your's is older. I'd ask them if I was you and wanted to be sure.

If anyone would like to go to this show, you are most welcome to come onto the rx7fb.com stand. Series 1 RX-8's are OK, based on what the organisers have said. Booking details:

Club Name: rx7fb
Code: JCL-183

Ian Mothersole and I will be on the stand in our other rotaries, our RX-7 1983/4 models.

Hopefully see some of you there!

As there's been no update on the Classic Car Show at the NEC, I might make this event my last RX8OC appearance this year. So if there's a space for my 04, I may well come along. When do you need confirmation?

Not sure when the organisers will cut off stand bookings, Derek. My guess would be about 2 weeks prior. Sooner you book the better, just to be sure.

Be great to see you there!

Hi Derek,

I’ve just been on the w/s via the link at the top of this thread and it says the club stand entry deadline was midnight on the 9th of September, I wish I had checked before having now missed the club stand. It also says that you cannot add anymore after the deadline!

Hi

Yes, I've made it a mission of mine to get to as many RX8OC events this year, I'm making up for lost time and enjoying the whole RX8 experience after owning the car for more than 20 years.
As for this event and the one at NEC, there hadn't been any recent post/info and it seemed like they were both dead in the water! It wasn't until Malcolm's post on the 9th that I reacted. However, as you say, it's now too late to purchase tickets.
