Classic JapFest at Goodwood - 6th October

Post by willberry70 »

OK lets see if I can earn my money..I mean complimentary membership..who's interested in the Goodwood Japfest, 6th October, £15 for a club spot if enough people are interested.

Classic Japfest is the ultimate blast from the past, celebrating classic Japanese cars in style at the iconic Goodwood Circuit. Picture this: you’re transported back to the days when legendary Japanese rides ruled the roads. It’s all about those classic cars from before 2004, giving you a glimpse into the rich history of automotive greatness. Note that all cars being displayed must be Japanese that began production pre-2004. Therefore vehicles with a registration later than 2004 with a vehicle that was produced from 2004 is permitted to display. Sadly this excludes Series 2/R3's from display :(

Now, the choice of Goodwood Circuit as our venue adds that extra touch of charm. Tucked away in the picturesque Sussex countryside, it’s the perfect setting for showcasing these classic Japanese beauties.

To be clear, this is for 2004 or earlier cars, so you need an early 8 to qualify to show your car 😘

Aren’t JDM Castle Combe and Simply Japanese at Beaulieu better suited to our membership as they are historically popular and not car age restricted but I cannot find a topic for either on the forum.

Good things come to those who wait Mr Holmes.

The CM and EC are well aware of the 2 being on the same weekend, yet on different days, and also that one of these was potentially earmarked for the AM.

There are plans afoot, hence nothing has been advertised as yet while things are looked at and discussed at Committee level. We are still in 2023 after all.... all will come to light in the new year.

I have a 1994 Nissan 100nx, and two 1997 nissan Primeras that would be perfect for this, drawback for me is the 6 hour drive.

I've just discovered that Kees, the Dutch guy who kindly trailered his Mazda Cosmo Sport to display on our stand at JDM Combe for the Mazda 55th celebration, is coming over for this show. He's coming with a group of Dutch guys in their classic Mazdas.

They have booked a show stand and the MRC are considering joining them on their stand.

If that is the case, I'll probably take my RX-7 and join them, keeping the RX-8 OC stand undiluted with 7's ;) :D

We could look to see later if the stands can be located adjacent to each other?

Good news for members Dan, you are incorrect (not often the case though  )!

This is the statement on their website: https://events.fastcar.co.uk/japfest-classic/faqs/

"Is the event solely for Japanese models?
Yes – all cars being displayed must be Japanese that began production pre-2004. Therefore vehicles with a registration later than 2004 with a vehicle that was produced from 2004 is permitted to display. Visitors can park their cars in the public car park no matter what make or model."

It begs the obvious question; does this includes RX-8 models other than standard Series 1 models; PZ's, Special Editions and R3's??

I'm not happy with the pricing transparency for this event, be warned!

It shows current "Early Bird" price for car plus driver as £20, and when you go to the payment page it shows balance £20 - fine.

It gives 2 payment options, PayPal or Credit Card/Apple Pay.

As soon as you select either of these options, a "Total Booking Fee" of £3.99 is added to the balance owed

I can see no mention of this surcharge anywhere in the T&C's, but maybe they've buried it deep somewhere. As there is no way I can see to avoid this surcharge, why hide the true price?

It’s unfortunately a caveat of digital purchasing, they don’t have to declare what is essentially “sales tax” it just shows up. As I don’t think that money goes directly to them it goes to whatever e-seller actually processes the monies they don’t have to declare it as it isn’t “their charge”

Edit but I don’t want to derail:

Example and why I stopped working for Virgin.
When Virgin merged with O2 there were “Volt” packages which were sold as “here’s cheap everything & you get O2 sims”
Sales were omitting that the sims were on contract and the price because “that’s not going to Virgin”
When I asked if that was ok they said “technically yes”
And I told them if “technically yes” works then so does “technically no” and left

Well this changes things. Have events contacted to clarify if R3 etc can go? I would like to attend this if we can get around the entry requirements because the initial 8 production date. And I'm sure others would when they realise? Club stand?

Have you read Malcolms reply above.... any car platform that was in production before 2004 can go even if the car itself is later than that.

R3 is just an rx8 with bits bolted on. Structurally it's the same car. As are the other editions.

But by that logic you could say an RX-8 is just an MX-5 NC with different subframes, body and engine. I guess they will have to draw the line somewhere.
