Ray Harrison (Harrizone) RIP; Scattering of his ashes at Brands Hatch, Fri 3 Dec

Post by casey »

This is an open invitation to anyone who knew Ray to attend the scattering of his ashes at Brands Hatch on Friday 3 Dec at noon, during the trackday lunchbreak organised for that date. The arrangements are outlined below. If you wish to attend, but are not listed on the trackday topic, please let me know, so I can keep track on numbers and can provide any additional information you might need to find us on the day.

The club will have a selection of hot drinks and a few light snacks available, set up out in our garages, free to anyone attending.
Arrangements for the scattering of Ray Harrison’s Ashes: Friday 3 December, Brands Hatch

A few minutes after noon, to allow the track and pitlane to clear from the morning track session, anyone who wishes to pay their respects are asked to line up in their car in the pit lane, behind “Ray’s” RX-8. The start line marshal will signal when the track is clear and we will follow Ray’s car (which may be led out behind the course car). There will be a procession, in single file, once around the complete circuit at ~30 -40mph, past the S/F line and then up to the top of Hailwood hill, under the footbridge, parking on Druids corner.

Helmets are NOT required and rear seat passengers ARE permitted.

Please exercise caution as you exit the pit lane and are about to enter the circuit. There may be vehicles exiting ACROSS the circuit, blending from your right, just before you come onto the track. There may also be track maintenance vehicles around the circuit.

Please park 3 abreast on Druids corner, to ease egress and entry through the marshal’s gate at the top of the hill, onto the infield at Druids Corner. You might want to bring a change of footwear and some suitable weather protection. It can get a bit muddy if there is heavy rain.

We will then gather inside Druid’s corner for the scattering of Ray’s ashes by his family, with maybe a few words and a moment of silence. If there is time, people may want to take some photos of the parked cars before we all set off again, in single file, back to the normal track exit and our garage area.

I would estimate this will take up to 30 minutes, so allowing time to get some fuel and food before the track re-opens at 1pm.

Please contact me if you have any questions.

We can't get across to Brands for this in person, but we will be joining in spirit.

Ray deserves no less.

I never met Ray, but constantly hear his name mentioned, which clearly shows what a kind of guy he was, and what he meant to you all. Hope you have a great celebration.

Thanks for coming along Haydn.

Thanks also to the many people who took part in the procession and to show their support for Linda and Ashley Harrison as they scattered Ray's ashes. I cannot think of a more fitting place for Ray's last resting place. A very poignant and dignified send off to a well loved and respected guy.

RIP Ray.

Hi all,

Thank you so much to all who came to Brands Hatch today to pay their respects when my mum and I scattered my dad's ashes. It was a great send off and a fitting place, that will be a reminder (good or bad! ), forever more when you are driving around.

Thank you to Malcolm for organising the day with the procession and Aston for letting us ride in dad's car again. I had been ok beforehand but when I looked back at the procession, that was me gone, for my mum it was being in the front of his car again. But it was right that dad had his last ride in the car he loved so much.

I know that there were some of you taking photos and videos, we have no problem if you want to share on here or other places so that those that couldn't make it, can see how it went.

Thanks to everyone again for their kind words both today and on his passing.

Kind Regards

Ash

It meant a lot to Katie and I that we were able to make it over for the ceremony, and we are very grateful to Linda & Ashley for including us all in the ceremony. As Malcolm said the location was perfect.

It was also very special to see Ray's car, now safely in the hands of Aston, continuing to do what it was intended to. Here are a a few shots from the afternoon, around the area where Ray's ashes now lie:

Really pleased for Linda and Ash that everything went so well yesterday.
Huge thanks for Malcolm for organising the perfect resting place for my old mate.

Here is a picture of happier times of Ray quite rightly winning a trophy at an MRC event back in 2007.
