Salisbury Car Fest, 8th September

Post by Honkytonk » Mon Aug 26, 2019 8:59 pm

Spoiler:
Hey, not sure the best way to approach this, but I was wondering if the club would be interested in doing something for the above event? Bit short notice but...

It's the second year of the show, but having gone for a mooch last year it was interesting and a good start.

https://www.salisburycitycouncil.gov.uk ... val?id=422

Details of the event for this year are there, there's a FB group with a load of photos from last year as well if you're into that sort of thing.

I happened to mention on the phone when I was asking for a space that I'm part of a club and they have said they're looking for more clubs to take part - so if I can get an idea of numbers and get back to them this week, say by Thursday, they'll assign us a space.

I understand this probably isn't how the events team normally arranges things, but whether it goes on as an official RX-8OC event or just a bunch of rotary nuts turning up together, I'd be happy either way. :thumright:

EDIT : BTW, this is a completely free event. No fees for parking or looking. From the sounds of it the council is trying to attract more organisations to display and grow the event, so now would be an excellent time to get in on the ground level.
Have spoilered the original post to make it more clear to anyone looking at the thread what's happening.

The main details;

- Completely Free Event on Sunday 8th September, 11am-4pm in the Centre of Beautiful Salisbury
- Only the second year of this event, so a good chance to get in at ground level and support a car show that is a bit more approachable
- This isn't an 'official' RX-8OC event organised by the Events Team, but instead by muggins here; so help is appreciated!
- You're right in the centre of town, sharing the space with some verrry exclusive metal judging by last year's showing
- Council (who are running the event) are eager to get some clubs involved, and we have RX Motors in the town so it'd be good to have some rotorheads about.
- Unfortunately no barbecues/grills etc. allowed (partly due to the Free event being paid for by catering stalls, which I think is fair from the council's perspective)
- Muggins here will source a couple of Thermos' and supplies so we can get some teas and coffees for everyone attending :thumleft:
- Food etc. : there will be catering stalls and you're in the Market Square in the centre of Salisbury - there's loads of places to grab something to eat!

MEET BEFOREHAND

We'll meet Outside Sainsburys in the Maltings Car Park from 8:00am-8:15am - go up the ramp of the multi-storey and we'll be about somewhere! Stragglers will need to be on the Market Square before our slot closes at 8:30am or they will not be allowed to join us in our designated spot.

What's the weather going to be like?
Nice!
Screenshot_20190904-071656_Firefox.png
Sunday Weather
I'm not expecting a huge gathering, but the council are happy to provide us an exclusive area if we can bring three or four cars and have done so but limited it to 5 cars due to demand - this is on a first come, first served basis unless a member states their willingness to give up their space.

Here's a list of who's going;
  1. Stand: Honkytonk - (Duncan, RX-8) 8am, Confirmed
  2. Stand: Rostyghost - Provisional (500 Abarth)
  3. Stand: PeteH - (Mercedes-Benz SL) 8:30am Confirmed
  4. Stand: Mhd - (Mark, RX-8) 8am, Confirmed
  5. Stand : Amor - (RX-8), 8am, Confirmed
If you're in the area or live nearby and feel like a quick pitstop/jaunt then drop into Salisbury city centre and say hello! It's promising to be a good event!

No problem Nigel, I assumed they might be with such short notice and another event on the same weekend.

Well then, anyone who's interested get your name down! If we put together enough interest to go as 'the club' I'll have a chat with the wonderful events team so we can put on a decent show.

I need to contact tomorrow about whether they'll allow a grill/kettle etc. but I'm pretty sure we can sort out something to provide tea/coffee/bacon etc. to club members.

Had a quick chat with council on the phone - No self-catering for bacon sarnies I'm afraid :( From their perspective they're funding the Free event in part through catering pitches, so you can understand their unwillingness. However I'm sure can source some cake and Thermos' of hot water for everyone who wants to join us. How good my cake and tea is, well, I can't promise...

I've updated the first post with some more details. Minimum of 3 cars to guarantee us a pitch, so it'd be great to have a few people join me in supporting this fledgling show!

I'll let the council know by Thursday AM latest, so a couple in the next day or so would be fantastic- we can always add more cars after as it's short notice.

Reckon we could get around the 'no grill' rule? I've cooked fish fingers in a land rover engine bay before, but bacon grilled over a popping exhaust would be a new one.

Could be done, it’d certainly be flame grilled...

That'd be terrible flame grilled, apart from maybe the tomatoes.

Sorry Amor, missed this - have updated the first post. I don't know for the time being, but provisionally, meeting at 10/10:30 outside The Boathouse pub (or possibly even next to Sainsburys to pick up drinks/snacks etc.) should be fine. I'll check what time the council wants us there for when I talk to them tomorrow and then put a firm plan in place.
