Drive Limits Activity Day: North Weald Airfield - Monday 9 June 2025

Post by MightyCondor »

The club has attended numerous Car Limits, and more recently Drive Limits days over the years. They are always a fun day out and allow you to test the limits of both you and your cars abilities in a safe environment. There is a 12 car day booked for Monday 9 June, which could do with a few more RX-8s to make up the numbers!

Booking Link here:

https://www.drivelimits.com/?gad_source ... KMQAvD_BwE

Price £135

Location
North Weald Market, North Weald Airfield Merlin Way, North Weald Bassett, Epping
https://maps.app.goo.gl/pvPRKMve1dbc6kzr9

Details
A fun and educational day.
Your instructor Mark will be assessing your braking and cornering on a high speed bend with the objective to safely lose control, pushing you and your car to the limits.
Coaching during the day with lots of practice adding new elements as the day progresses with a timed circuit at the end,

Instructions
Your car must be safe!
Unless you have a light car for example a Caterham Elise MX5 then tyre pressures should be the max on tyre wall.

They have never done a noise test on my multiple visits, and plenty of RX8 owners with loud exhaust systems have never had anything to worry about.

Edit: technically 105db but you'll only be tested if you're obnoxiously anti socially ear splittingly loud.

It's been pointed out that I haven't included timings for the day. Normally it's 9-4. Arrive for 8.30 to empty your car and inflate tyres and sign on to keep the day running on time.

This could be a stupid question but coming from a background of racing motorbikes( not done any car track days), we drop the tyre pressure in our tyres. Heating expanding air and climbing pressures etc. Why do you need to run the max psi in the tyre wall? Is the intention to reduce the grip so it's easier to get to edge of traction and control it?

No, it's just something that the organisers request as a safety precaution. For heavier cars especially there's a risk that the high speed bend exercise could cause a tyre to unseat itself.

I don't think it's too much to worry about, and normally just add a token 5psi. Having said that, I once attended a track day at Blyton Park where an MX-5 managed to lose a tyre on a fairly low speed bend, so I guess it's possible.

This isn't a track day.

It's high-speed exercises, performed from a standing start on a very abrasive surface, hence the need to increase tyre pressures to avoid tyres unseating.

There's no risk of car-to-car contact as cars are only released once the previous car is safely away.

Similarly, there's nothing solid for you to hit if you lose control, other than the odd plastic cone.

As an exposed airfield location, dress for cold weather, as there's no shelter.
