Snetterton 300 Circuit - Thursday 2nd May £199

Another date for your trackday diary this year :thumleft:

This event is being run by Javelin, who always provide a good, fun, day. Priced at £199, at one of my favourite circuits, due to it's great variety of corners, from a tight hairpin to Coram, a 90mph+ bend that goes on forever :D

Highly recommended getting an trackday fix once again at this fantastic track :!:

More details and booking here:
https://javelintrackdays.co.uk/trackday ... /SNS020524

The circuit:

and this topic, specific to Snetterton:
Snetterton Guide

Noise limit is 105dB(A) static and 92dB(A) drive-by.

Address
Snetterton Circuit

For those unfamiliar with Snetterton, here's some in-car 2015 footage of what it looks like to drive in an RX-8 :D

Hi! I'm thinking of going to the event, one thing though - can you track an RX-8 bone stock? I know the car might not be as fast without better brake pads etc but will it still be safe?

Absolutely!.
Once you start tracking you will naturally start replacing bits because it's edictive.but otherwise you are good to go.

I started my trackdays with 100% OEM car, no mods. Now nearing 100 trackdays. Beware, it can become addictive!

The RX-8 is extremely capable on track in stock form. It might not have the outright grunt of other cars in a straight line, but its cornering ability is awesome. Straights are over-rated, all the fun is in the corners :D

Happy to share my garage if you decide to come along.

Very good points!

Cheap and/or badly worn tyres will ruin the experience on track. Let us know what tyres you are running and we can probably let you know if they will be any good.

I've never done a track day before - I'm sure they'll tell me everything I need to know once I'm there, but what time should I get there for?

07:30 - Check In Opens
09:00 - Sighting Laps
09:20 - Open Pit Lane

Do I need to arrvie at 7:30 or can I just come for 9 or what's best?

It may be obvious, but make sure you wear trousers and long sleeves, not like me when I did my first session, and rocked up in shorts and t shirt Image.
And a helmet of course Image

You really don't want to rush your 1st ever track day get the half an hour before checkin opens and you'll have plenty Of time to make sure you absorb the safety briefing and the sighting lapse it would be wise to have an experienced member go out with you at the beginning or even better an instructor if Available

I’ve booked 20 minutes of instructor so hopefully that’ll help too

It’s my first track day, but I’ve played a lot of assetto corsa with a racing wheel so I know the *theory* at least, I guess I’ll see if it translates to real life

7:30 is a good arrival time.
Very kind of Malcolm to offer to share his garage with you. A good paddock location is prime real estate at Snetterton.
Do go out for a few laps with Malcolm, he's very experienced and has great knowledge of Snetterton.
Below is a map of Snetterton that might help. You'll need to sign in and get your wristband at the circuit office (1) and have your car noise tested (6), it's a good idea to get those out of the way early.
There will be a safety briefing at Tyrell's Restaurant which is usually at 8:30, they'll tell you at signing on. That's where lunch is served too. It's OK cafe grub but there is a Greggs, Subway, McDonalds and mini Asda right outside the circuit.
snetterton-visitors-map.jpeg
Don't forget to make sure that you have at least one towing eye to screw in before you drive.
Don't be unnerved if you see lots of race teams, and some people driving very fast and close to you than you'd like. Everyone does track days differently and just focus on your own lap and having fun.
It's always a bit windier and colder at Snetterton due to being exposed.
Do check your oil, coolant etc before you go out each time. Expect to through fuel at a hilarious rate, and your actual fuel level might be much lower than the fuel gauge indicates. So if you've just cornered and enter a straight and the power cuts for a couple of seconds then comes back... it's past time to fill up! ;)

If you really want to research below is a track guide video that I found very helpful to study on my first couple of times at Snetterton.

I'd join you guys if I could next week. Hope you have fun!

I'd be happy to take you out as a passenger in my first session so you can see the lines I take and get a feel for things. Happy then to swap over and passenger with you, if you like?

I assume you have a helmet? If not they can be hired for ~£10. Another reason to get there early, if you need helmet hire, to ensure you get a good choice of sizes!

I'll aim there just before 7.30am.

I should mention nose limits. If your car is stock then you'll have no issue whatsoever. If an aftermarket exhaust then you ought to be OK, but some systems have been known to fail the static noise test (usually taken at the start of the day, but not always) or the drive-by limit.

And make sure to bring at least a litre of oil! Oil will be consumed at a massively quicker rate than road driving. Expect to use at least 0.5 litre during the day.

Casey, I'd love for you to help me get to know the car and track! Being your passenger then swapping over sounds like a great idea, thanks :) And I'll give those links a read soon, oh also sorry I missed it earlier but sharing your garage would be really nice if that offer still stands, thanks so much

My car is stock except a bypass valve, so I'll try and ask them nicely to test it with it open and if it's too loud then I'll run with the valve shut (quiet as stock).

Thanks New Duke for all the infomation, I have a meeting right now but I'll check it out afterwards. Also, where exactly is best to get a towing eye?

Thanks so much for the help everyone, I really appreciate it!

you should have 2 in your boot, the little tool tray right at the back.

Hopefully, you can locate these. If you do, I HIGHLY recommend to test fit them front and rear as it's likely the mounting points are a little caked with surface rust through lack of use. Better to sort this before, rather than waste time on the day. It may require you to clean out the threads with a small wire brush, or other tool.

There are two mounting points sited at the top front corners of the main grille - you only need to use one, whichever is easiest to screw into - the plastic covers can be levered/pulled off. The rear mounting point is in the lower black plastic grille, on the driver's side.

Ideally, run with both front and rear, but you could get away with one front or rear if you find only one towing eye, or have difficulty screwing two in.

Very worst case, I have 2 and can loan you one and run with one on the day. A breaker on here should be able to supply then at reasonable cost if they are missing.

No problem, a cash contribution towards the cost on the day, £10 would be great and much appreciated :thumleft:

I plan to bring a a small table, a kettle, some mugs, water and tea/coffee/milk/sugar supplies, so we can have a drink (no charge) whenever we feel like it in the garage. Bring a camping chair if you like to have a sit down during the day.

Not 100% necessary, but well worth bringing a spare set of brake pads for the front, if you can, as they will take a beating, depending on your driving style! I'll have the tools to change them on the day, should it be needed. I have spare rear pads, which last for ages anyway, should they be needed, but my calipers on the front are not OEM, so my spare pads won't fit your car.

If it helps, here is my checklist of stuff to take. I don't necessarily take everything, but a good list to check as I pack the car the day before.

Driving License
Helmet
Sunglasses
Hat
Suntan lotion
Umbrella
Coolant
Funnel
Oil
Pre-mix
Air Compressor/Footpump
Fire Extinguisher
Noise meter
Work gloves
Hand wipes
Towel

Gaffer Tape
Masking tape
Zip ties
Cash
Torquewrench + bits
Trolley jack
Basic toolset
Hacksaw
Fuses
Spare Brake Pads
Battery starter pack
Camera(s) - Ensure SD card in screen camera
Long sleeve clothing
Waterproof jacket
Phone, + lead
Phone power pack
SatNav
First Aid kit
Tissues
Car cleaning stuff
Spare Tyres?

Hi, yeah I’d be happy to pay £10 towards the garage, that sounds good

If it’s ok, my girlfriend’s going to be with me, I don’t know what that would change but just so it’s not surprising on the 2nd.

Thanks for the pack list, I’ll bear that in mind. Regarding brake pads, do you reckon if I ordered some slightly-sportier-than-oem brakr pads it'd be worth it and they'd arrive on time?

I would ensure whatever you get is guaranteed to arrive on time - or collect a basic pair from the likes of EuroCarParts-
https://www.eurocarparts.com/p/brembo-b ... -10168018a

Special offer £38.51 at the moment - not sure how good they are (never used them, but Brembro ought to be good?) , but better than nothing!
