They see me rollin...
So some footage on YouTube of me doing some farming and running into some tyres.
Of you don't enjoy watching me go around, fast forward to about 2 minutes from the end...

Pleased that you’re ok, that’s the most important thing
Not a lot of run off at all on that circuit, surprised that’s the case with the safety of most places nowadays.

Re: They see me rollin...
Just had a chance to watch that through and it's the sort of thing that gives Pauline the willys when we (I) go on trackdays.
Even without getting hit by anyone else, the scenery can jump out and grab you.
The bit where you got released after the stoppage remained me of our second session at Kirkistown.
One of the marshals had a green flag and kept waving it to show that the track was clear, only it was very faded, so half the guys were jumping on the brakes having seen a waved yellow...

Re: They see me rollin...
I'm curious whether you were running with the DSC disabled.
In most cases the DSC should help avoid those situations, but it can't overcome the laws of physics, and when they cut in you might not be pointing the the direction that you want to go.
We had one of the very first production 2L Focus' and its traction control was fine, except for one mini-roundabout on my way home. The road coming in from the side was from an industrial estate that included a machine shop, who would get their swarf collected in big crates on a flatbed truck, dripping with oil emulsion.
The slightest bit of rain and the second part of the roundabout would be like an ice rink.
The TC on the Focus would detect the lack of grip on the front and induce a lift-off understeer that would try and send you up the other side of the dual-carriageway.
I got into the habit of switching off the TC as I approached and then you could keep the power on and leave at the intended exit.

I don't have enough confidence in my abilities as a driver.
I did try it the earlier session... And the results are in the other video on YouTube and the photos in Instagram @mazdamadbrad

However...the ABS light had come on while I was standing there waiting. It has never come on before.
I thought I'd check it out at the end of the session as the session would almost be over. The brakes worked fine for a lap and a half and then locked...I didn't have enough knowledge to handle it and just kept on braking.
I had one previous lock up in that same corner with all aids on.
That was a wet dry wet day... Was raining, dried out and then started drizzling again... And that's the first time I locked up in that corner... That time I made it straight to the gravel traps.

I'm not sure... The ABS light came on which it has never done before while on track. So I'm not sure if the sensor has gone. There was a bit of smoke coming from the wheels in the previous sessionmrspiller wrote:Glad your ok Bradbrad_wil wrote:So some footage on YouTube of me doing some farming and running into some tyres.

News disks... Used pads... Maybe not bedded in

But the light coming on is the main concern for me... Haven't checked if it's still on.
Removed the bumper and the front wing... Once I get the lower control arm from Mazda (cheapest new price) I'll see if it fits or by how much the suspension has moved ...

If the ABS light was on then that would have been disabled hence the lock-up
possible failed wheel speed sensor ?

I'm thinking that... maybe all the heat from all the hard braking has taken its toll... I'll replace them before I go out again.350matt wrote:If the ABS light was on then that would have been disabled hence the lock-up

Re: They see me rollin...
Hi Brad,
Sorry to see the results of that.
An easy way to move it is hire a trailer and get two lengths of 4x2. It’s a lot easier to get a car on a low trailer, tilt trailers are good. Fitting a standard set of wheels on the front with over inflated tyres helps or you can cut two wheels from a piece of ply board to bolt on the front.
Regards
Pete

Re: They see me rollin...
It could be a wheel sensor or a more complex part of the system.
However, the most common cause of failure is chafing of the wiring through the boot lid to the centre brake light.
The system is very sensitive to the expected voltage drop and anything out-of-range causes the ABS to disable.

Good sport for putting up on here.
Glad your ok .
New discs and old pads is not a good combination though. I always replace both if new discs are fitted.

Would be a real waste of great pads... The hawk performance has been so good. Had about 6 or 7 track days and they are about half left... Will definitely but again!njkmr wrote:Good sport for putting up on here.

I hadn't realised, until I re-watched the video on a big screen, that you'd also captured the off that caused the red flag stoppage.

I know them... Father and son who bought a MR2 and that was the first track day in the MR2... They also have that red Clio which I was chasing in the 2nd video... The one where I spun and ended up having the wrong way.

Hi
Sorry to see the indiscretion,as others have said that is a strange lock up ,I have had spins and hairy moments but the brakes have always been stable,is there much damage ,hopefully it will just be bolt on panels.
Good luck with it ,mark
