Just processing the video of Wills 2:39 lap. For reference, I managed a 2:55.... Will do a whole bunch of videos over the next few days.
Interested to see that! My best was a 2:44.

Here's Wills 2:39.25 his optimum was 2:38.9 for the session.

I've put both odb2 and GPS speed. The odb2 fell out at one point.

This is in Vinods Street port on Bridgestone potenzas.

Fun day for me. I think it would take hundreds of laps for me to absolutely nail Silverstone but I would enjoy every one of them .

Thanks to Vinod for allowing the parking of cars and dumping of stuff in his garage .

Aside from running wide regularly at Stowe (turning in too soon) , it was largely a clean day for me up until the last session when I had a reasonable sized spin at Abbey.

2.44 sounds really good. So the car as John said is a streetport with RB cat, it was running Bridgestone Potenza sports. I was a bit worried they would disintegrate this morning as the rubber was really coming off them at Snetterton but I think the pressure must have been too high. Lowered the pressure and they were much better today. I fancy the look of your Nankangs at some point for the track but so far these Potenza sports have been the best tyre I've had on the car on the road since I've owned it ( I've basically had every Potenza ). Pagid pads as well which I think I need to upgrade.

It has got fairly new PZ suspension on it and has had subframes, lower arms etc done so that all helped but I think the main thing was the driver. My friend Will is very experienced racing cars. I on the other hand am not and only managed a 2.57. In my defence I'll say it was my first time and I struggled to get a clean lap in the afternoon. Plus I was a bit crap... ;)

I'm hoping you won't say it was your first time.....

Sorry I didn't come over and say hi more. I was busy trying to learn everything but should have come over and said hello a few times and meet all you guys. There were some lovely rx8's down your end ( and minis and BMW's... )

Great lap!

Picked up some good tips to try next time, the downshift to 3rd in the last part of Maggots/Becketts complex and using 2nd through Vale and Village/The Loop. Looks like I was a gear too high through those sections.

That’s a nice setup! Ah the fabled PZ suspension, worth at least 5 seconds a lap Image

Saw the Potenza Sports on a recent Tyre Reviews video and the verdict was that they are pretty good but last half as long as the Michelin and Goodyear equivalents apparently.

The Nankangs are ok, no complaints about them really so far, though they aren’t great in the cold/wet. Going to try something new for my next set, but not sure what just yet. It was my first time driving Silverstone, definitely not my first time on track though!

Indeed, sorry! Been doing the rounds with messages, hadn't got round to here yet  I've gotta pull files from the GoPro and get all the photos sorted, but I'll upload them here over the next few days either directly or on a Google drive :D

All I can say is, what an absolute blast of a day that was! Fantastic! For a first trackday it was amazing, so much fun - plenty learned, and cheers by the way for the help from the passenger seat ;) cake was good, so that's a bonus

And blimey can Pete go some on them slicks! that's an experience and a half being a passenger :giggle: definitely won't be forgetting that for a long time, cheers =D> :guns:

100% will do again! :inlove:

Yeah I wanted to try them as something new in the Potenza range even though I had heard mixed reviews. Mostly my tyres die of old age as I don't do the mileage so wasn't worried about longevity, however was worried about the rubber coming off them after Snetterton and that they wouldn't finish the track day! They easily made it.

I have rainsports for the cold/wet and will use them for my winter set. I might also just go to something like the nankangs or federals instead of a road summer tyre. Anyway... I'll do some research but my sports probably have quite a bit more meat on them so no rush.

I think it's impressive to get 2.44 at your first time at Silverstone, track experience or not. Or maybe I should be appalled with my time! Anyway I had fun that's the main thing....

I should have taken more pictures. Managed to get this one shortly after the chequered flag though.

Will get some vids up hopefully later today/tomorrow.

Thanks to all for jumping on this one, it was great to have some RX-8 representation there! Will ask for closer garages next time!

Think we made a good account of ourselves, had quite a few people poke their head in our garage asking questions and keen to know more about rotary life.

All in all, an epic day, and will be looking to rebook for next year as soon as it’s available! Would be great to make it a recurring event!

Here’s my best attempt, a 2:44.9 followed by a 2:44.6.

Still plenty of time to find. Watching it back now it’s pretty clear I should have been in 3rd through the final right onto the Hanger Straight and 2nd coming out of the slow and awkward Loop. Both lead onto long straights so I’m sure I left a bunch of time on the table there, will make sure to correct that next time!

Ouch! looks expensive :(

The driver seemed to have plenty of time and space to correct that slide, but no sign in the video of any attempt at some opposite lock :?: :-k

That’s exactly what I thought at the time! So much time and track to work with, it was a strange one.

Looked like it was happening in slow motion!

Final video from me. Wasn’t going to post but there’s a few RX-8s featured so it might be of interest.

I’m following George in this one. Both cars are of a similar pace around the lap but they make their time in very different ways. The Mini is a little rocket down the straights, and was hitting 135 down the Hangar Straight!

If anyone was listening to me on the day ( no probs if you weren't, I normally talk drivel ;) ) apparently this is a classic track day incident according to Driver61 at Woodcote.

I was watching his guide on YouTube the day before and although it seems I didn't actually learn any of the corners I did pay very close attention to places where he said this is where people crash.

Much better to use the tarmac run off on exit than lifting if you go in too early he says. On the guide I think there are supposed to be some bollards there to aim for unless I've got the wrong corner.

Edit: actually looking at the vid again it seems the incident happened even before woodcote.

Made me chuckle

Quite a good guide that, will save for next time!

It just looked like he got on the power too early, rather than taking too much speed. But you’re right, he had plenty of room to play with.

Caught one of the Red Flag incidents on my Go Pro. BMW spun just in front of me coming out of Luffield:
Blimey! Yeah, that's a fair punt he had into that wall, damage to his car looked pretty bad from what we saw coming past, side airbags and all   caught a glimpse of it as we came round, we got the red flag for it when we were at the top of Hangar straight... He only just managed to keep it off the pit entry :!:
