They are very strict
I have full racing beat and had to change 3rd to 4th early at start finish line - that where drive by is .
Barely passed static test too

I run AEM..sounds like a big risk to do this track day. Will measure my sound on my phone(i know its not massively accurate), mrspiller would you be able to do the same for idle and at 6K(as close to exhaust as possible)? I use dB Meter its a free on ios.

I think you’ll struggle
Mine is 91-92 at 5000 rpm
The old fella doing the static test was a good guy
He heard the car , looked at the Rev counter , said wow , you should rev this to 6 you’ll never pass . Keep it to about 4500 and keep the clutch depressed .
I had a bad day , only done 15 maybe 20 laps . Around 4 at a time . Each time I came in , he would come and have a chat and tell
Me I was still too loud and pretend to re test me . Had to change up 3rd to 4th at 6500 rpm accross start finish which was no fun .
I know pat lives locally , I’m pretty sure he popped in to get tested prior . he has full toyo system and failed badly .
His plan was to put a PZ back box on for the day .
I do have a proper tester and the reading were as above
Next time I’m going I’ll be putting an elbow over the exhaust shrouds facing the ground .

That’s what the tester told me to do

I think you would struggle to meet 90dBA static with that setup Ramesh, not worth chancing it IMHO.

I remember a strict day at Goodwood a few years back when an RX-8 turned up unexpectedly (not on the forum or part of the group I'd organised) and he failed the noise test badly and never got out on track at all, they wouldn't let him even try. A completely wasted day for him :(

90db is very strict for a track day.
I failed the 96 at Donington and there is a big difference from 90db to 96db as the scale is not linear. The Donington one was a drive by so like Mr Spillar I knew where it was and to short shift keeping the revs down after the first time I got black flagged, I just plane forgot the second time and that was it end of my day. Apparently had hit 102db
My car now has a new system and runs around 92db which seems very quite, mind you my hearing is not the best!

Would be interested in the results using phone if anyone can compare it to what they know it's been tested to on track as I need to test mine to get an idea of what it is, as penbrey is end of July and iv got combe vouchers Image

Don’t worry
They don’t test down there unless they think it’s loud - I’ve never seen anyone get tested neither
Took my turbo one down there with single HKS which I tests at 98 at 4000 rpm and nothing was said

In addition to phone db meters being very inaccurate you'll find that readings will vary between tracks. They'll even differ between testers using the same equipment at the same track. It's that variable. So any reading is only really accurate to other tests done at the same time.

That's why you'll find that the readings you'll get will vary at every track you visit.

If volume is a concern prior to booking then your best bet is to head to a nearby track for a free test there. Then allow at least 5db (but ideally 10db) margin on that as your personal limit.

Absolutely! Going back to the Goodwood scenario, we had an RX-7 FD in our group which "passed" the Goodwood limits using my handheld noise meter, but failed miserably using the (supposedly better quality/calibrated) Goodwood official meter. I know my meter tests to within 5dBA of most MSV and other tracks I've been to (I get "official" readings of 88 - 93dBA, my meter typically reads 90-92), but the Goodwood tester was indicating 10dBA higher than my reading! I honestly believe their meters were not accurate. Using my measurement and a LOT of badgering of the officials by Clive and I, we thankfully managed to get the FD allowed out on track.

The RX-8 I referred to above was a no-hoper though, running a decat and Pettit exhaust, it was insanely loud!

And as Dave queried the intake makes a big impact on the test. Even though intake might not be a common consideration when the meter is at the exhaust. The K&N Typhoon (RIP) I had added roughly 15db to tests. That thing was insanely loud (and sounded amazing, I really miss it).

Every 3db is about double the sound energy.

Measurements can be impacted by all sorts of things including atmospheric pressure and humidity.

Afraid to say you will struggle Ramesh :( , as my car just passed the noise limiter at 89db

As much as I liked that track, it's doubtful that I will ever drive it again :( :(
