I’ll be booking March the following yearMarkl17 wrote:I will probably book spa but not yet,my only concern for November is ice and snow,it is an expensive trip so the thought of going to an icy spa is a worry.

Re: Markl17 - Track days
I have got the car checked, washed and loaded today ready for a 6.30 start in the morning, the van is full of kit,I have never taken so much stuff to a track day,but the car has not driven further than the end of my drive so a bit of a journey in to the unknown.
I will find out tomorrow if I have done a good job or not.the weather forcast is sunny and 20 degrees .I am looking forward to it it seems like a long time since the last one.
I am sharing the car with Grant who was quite a good karter back in the day but this will be his first track day,I hope he enjoys it,he has also never driven a rotary before, I think it I’ll be a steep learning curve.

Re: Markl17 - Track days
Here is a short write up of my track day at the circuit de haute Saintonge.
I got up at 5.45 am Sunday morning with a feeling of apprehension and excitement as the car has only driven 50 meters.Grant arrived at 6.15 ,we got in the van and set off arriving at the track at 8.15 ,the car was checked,we signed on .the drivers briefing was the usual long wind affair.
Weather was bright and sunny 15 degrees in the morning and mid twenties in the afternoon
The pit lane opened at 9.15 and I was one of the first out with the old Michelin tyres and on my third lap had a big spin and was pointing the wrong way down the track, luckily every body missed me,car was fine.
Them it was grants turn first track day and first time driving a rotary,it took him a few laps to get the hand of it but he came back smiling.
I put the federal tires on and the car was fabulous,it never missed a beat all day long we were even doing driver changes in the pit lane ,pressures and temperatures where rock solid all day,we ended up burning 120 euros worth of fuel.
There was a good mix of cars from GT3 to Renault twingo probably about 45 cars total so not much queuing in the pit lane.
The difference between my road going 231 with the same suspension and brakes to the stripped out 192 is night and day the 192 makes the 231 feel very lazy at at direction change and not as keen, Colin Chapman was right.
We had a great day and Grant said he could of kept going until they turned the lights off so I think I have a convert
Special thanks has to go to mr spiller for finding me the engine,it is an absolute peach,I owe you a beer.

Re: Markl17 - Track days
I am going to the Pau Grand Prix tomorrow for the weekend, this is my favorite boy’s weekend there are just 4 of us going this time and it is the first time since 2019 .the world touring cars are head lining this weekend,I have not watched them before so should be good.
As well as the racing the night life is really good,it is a university town so plenty to do .
The sound of the cars echoing round the street is good for the sole.
I will post some pics next week

Re: Markl17 - Track days
I went up to the Le Mans Classic on Thursday with Sarah and Amélie, we arrived at about 1.30, got the tent set up on the campsite opposite the track and went into the circuit. There was no action on Thursday but we got a good look around all 6 paddocks with not many people about, there was everything I could possibly want to see, we where there at the circuit for 5hrs and still didn’t get to see everything.
Friday we where at the circuit by 8.30am sat and had breakfast at one of the cafes and watched the world go by for an hour.
Then it was time to watch some car, I stood opposite the pits and the sound of the group c cars was immense and made my ears hurt, we stayed until 3ish and walked back to the tent for a couple of hours rest before the night session. We went back to the circuit and had dinner at one of the restaurants and watched the cars into the night, it is so atmospheric at night with the lights and noise, I am getting old so back to the tent at midnight.
Saturday the first race was at 10am and I watched the racing for most of the day and the girls went to look at all the attractions.
The racing ran through the night but I did not.
Sunday we had to come home at lunchtime as I had work to sort out for work on Monday.
There were 200 000 spectators in over the weekend and the camp site was packed, lots of Brits in some very nice cars, also lots of car clubs had group pitches
