To all of you guys with partners who are reluctant or unwilling to drive your sport cars may I suggest that you treat it the same way you would if they said that they did not want to climb the stairs; you realise that this is unusual and help them get over it.

I have talked to Jess (Tom’s partner) so I know she is just a bit hesitant because track driving is strange to her, but she did say she would give it a go once she was a bit more confident.

BUT Haydn and Chris, seriously; your partners would rather walk than drive your 8. Guys, that is not normal behaviour unless they have had a bad experience in an 8.

Women have a tough time when it comes to men and their attitude towards them and their driving abilities; why do you think the huge majority of women drive tiny city cars or huge off-roaders; society has a perverse idea of a women’s driving skills and what sorts of cars are suitable for women and it reinforces these ideas and attitudes through school and work life and a heck of a lot of husbands don’t help (there is a psychological term called the “Yorkshire man syndrome” which is still alive and well in present day society).

Guys it is your duty as a loving partner to help them recover from the damage society has done to them. Talk to them about the reasons why and patiently and slowly help them overcome whatever it is that is causing this aberrant behaviour/conditioning. It can be undone; it takes time and patience, but it does work. I can suggest some good books that can provide guidance.

No criticism is directed or implied at anyone mentioned in the above discourse.

Ranjan (Ph.D. Developmental Psychology)
It's very true Ranjan and I can agree with that Jess has come from a family of non drivers, her mom sister and other relatives. Working locally didn't help and the introduction of a petrol head boyfriend i.e. me further compounded the problem. 6 years on she finally passed her test after numerous attempts, a good break of a year due to financial commitment (buying our first home) then finally passing

I'm also a terrible passanger and always wondered why me and my dad used to nearly come to blows when I went out with L plates on. Fast forward a few years and I have the same traits so that also didn't help as she only had me to go out with as no one else in the family on her side could drive.

Speaking to her this morning she doesn't half like Chris M3 she has gone on about it since Combe Image first impressions of her driving the RX-8...

What will happen if I stall it? I don't like revving it so much... the clutch is really funny, I don't like this I can't see anything out the back vroom vroom clatter clatter stall.. yeah I don't like driving this Image

MY wife will drive the 8 and has taken it round Silverstone, but finds her line of sight compromised by the A pillars.
Also, I've sat next to Haydn round a track and I can understand why his good lady doesn't want to treat the car that way!! [-o<

Looks like the probability of the Rex being ready is still only 50% so tomorrow have asked for the 720S to be shod with new Trofeo Rs in readiness for Mallory.

In a recent poll on this matter the result was as below:

People hoping your RX8 is ready in time 1
People hoping your RX8 is not ready in time 11

After sort of cooking the engine and brakes at Croft, brakes easily sorted with a skim and new pads but engine unknown currently, if i have to do this day in the M3 then I will have very mixed emotions.

At the moment I'm the only non-Japanese, non-RX8 going.

So while I hope you get to drive your first choice Ranjan, I won't be crying if there's another mid-engined European car in our group (although I bet you'll be more popular for passanger requests than me! :thumleft: ). :)

Feel even more out of the loop than ever not being able to commit to track days any longer :( . Would have been worth attending just to admire the 720S but finances don't allow for these overnight excursions any more sadly  .
Now a distant memory unfortunately.
