West Midlands - Track day suggestions..

Post by nintenjo » Mon May 06, 2019 6:53 pm

I live in Warwick and I am looking for a close (ish) track day or car control day to trial my RX8 at.. I’d rather not travel a long distance as it’s my first event and there seems to be plenty of venues but struggling to find organisers where I can book with?

Any advice?

Mallory Park & Silverstone are the two nearest (in terms of journey time).

I like Mallory - it's about 40 mins away (A46, M69, A5) - has a nice compact track that suits the 8, and often has quite reasonably priced trackdays.

Oh - and for the second part, I've done trackdays there with both Javelin and Book A Track ... both days were well run.

Silverstone, whilst a very high speed circuit, is actually a great beginner circuit. As it's designed for F1 cars it's incredibly wide with a very large amount of run-off. Whilst it's not impossible to have an accident there, it's a much safer track than say mallory where the barriers are a little closer to the track

I moved to Warwick 6 months ago and I'm sure I've see you around. Just got my RX8 out of storage, sure I'll see you around again. Keen for track days too so will watch this thread :)

As above, Silverstone, Donington Park and Mallory Park are all good options that aren't too far from you. Another one that's worth looking at, although a little further afield, is Blyton Park - loads of runoff into fields of cabbages, and the club will be doing a day there on the 5th of July, so you can get some pointers and passenger rides throughout the day.

Take a look at Nigel's 2019-2020 track days thread, that will give you an idea of which days the club will be attending. As time goes on that list will grow, so keep checking it over. I just discovered Mallory on the day before New Year's Eve, which looks veeery tempting at that price!

Whichever circuit you choose to go to, be sure to get some instruction while you're there, it will help you to enjoy the day much more when you can begin to push the car a little.

I loved Mallory park, not much to learn so can really increase your times through the day, an 8 is also pretty quick round there

Guys,

This is a no-brainer #-o ; Mallory Park is great for beginners and is great for the RX8.
As you get better throughout the day you will find the wonder that is Gerard's Bend.

Ranjan.
