I would like to know who did the Snetterton 300 times please?
I would like some pointers as I could only manage a 2:26.
On analysing my video and racechrono data, I could see maybe getting a second or maybe 2 seconds better if I had the perfect lap.
I don't know what my weight is but if I look at the stripped and semi category then I'm 8 seconds off the mark...I just don't know where... please help me...purely for self improvement reasons.

These are my 2 fastest sessions:

Not the answer to your question but it reminded me of an interview with Lewis Hamilton, when he first started in F1...

He had just got on pole and was being challenged as to why even this lap was so much slower (by a few 10ths) than his theoretical fastest lap, that being the amalgamation of all his best sectors.

I don't recall his exact wording but it came down to two factors;
- gaining time in one sector meant pushing too hard and not having any grip left in the tyres to get the best in later sectors.
- taking the fastest line into one corner may make that sector quicker, but may compromise your exit and make you slower down the entire following straight.

Basically, the idea of "a perfect lap" by just stringing together best sectors, doesn't work in practise.

OTOH if you can see where you're making mistakes (poor lines, braking too early, over-driving) in different places, and you can find examples from different laps which avoid those mistakes, then I think "a best clean lap" is a reasonable target.

Brad,
There are two main areas at Snetterton which you have to get right to save time; well three really if you include the hairpin but that is a corner that is difficult to give advice on technique as it is very car and driver dependant.
The main two are Riches and Brundle.

Brundle is the main one to save time on, you can easily shave 2-3secs on that corner alone. I am afraid though that this one takes practice, practice, practice. You cannot treat Brundle as if it is a normal corner, it ain’t. From your video you are hitting about 106mph as you reach the first braking marker and are already down to 73 by the last marker. You should ONLY start braking when you are about to reach the last marker and brake hard all the way through the corner. Brundle is all about late braking and it takes practice; you will get it wrong and go off, but it is the only way to learn. This braking through the corner really upsets the car so keep your wits about you for oversteer correction as the back will be really light. Only change down as you approach Nelson. Accelerate early through Nelson but cover the brake to stop going off at the exit. Entry speed into Nelson is really important for the Bomb-hole and Coram so you see that the little bit of tarmac between Brundle and Nelson is really important to get right.

The other place to save time is Riches; people tell you it is a double apex so people start braking for the first apex and because you cannot see the apex until you hit it, they brake too early and turn in too early. What I do is to ignore the first apex and come in hot, turning in very late and use my left foot to brake but only to stop understeer and pump the accelerator all the way through the corner feeling for grip and aim for the second apex. Usually saves a second or so.

Anyway, have fun.

Ranjan.

I'm pretty sure it was Liam22 (Liam Crilly) who posted the 2:18, so a fully race prepped car good aero, driven by a very experienced race driver.

The first question would be : what tyres and suspension are you running and is the car stripped out at all or standard ?
With road tyres a car needs to turn in a little earlier than semi slicks to allow for the drift wide
I wouldn’t be too disappointed with a 1:26 if I was you it just takes practice

Snetterton is a circuit that rewards a well practiced left foot braking technique used to unsettle and then settle the car whilst still maintaining a large throttle input. Maybe this technique is not for everyone but I certainly found it helped my in a variety of different cars around Snetterton.
As Ranjan has mentioned practice, practice and you have to push the limits to get quicker.
I once went round Snetterton with Jan Magnussen who is by far and away the quickest circuit driver I have ever been in a car with and he was the one who I learnt the teqhnique from. He did not even realise he was doing it until I pointed it out!

I'll have to learn the names now...thanks for all the input.
I'm running eibach/bilstein combo with extreme tyres semi slick, stripped interior with full roll cage and brembo calipers up front .
Definitely looks to me like I need lots more practice...it was such a perfect day.
Wish I had one of you guys there so I can follow and learn. Maybe I should get tuition again Image

I might need to grow a bigger pair too!

Wayne,

Numbering corners confuses the hell out of me and I always cock it up so I remember names, much easier for me I find my way round.
Anyway, at Snetterton the corners are helpfully labelled as you enter them :thumright:

My last time at Snetterton a long time ago..... :(
